📋 Description

• • Own the financial heartbeat of every project you touch. As CAI’s Project Accountant you will be the single point of accountability for the fiscal health of multiple high-stakes engagements across life-science and mission-critical sectors. From the moment a Statement of Work is signed until the final invoice is paid, you will shepherd budgets, costs, revenue, and cash-flow to ensure every dollar is visible, explainable, and optimized.
• • Build and maintain living project budgets that evolve with scope changes, change orders, and real-time labor/expense data. You will load initial budgets into Sage Intacct (or SAP/QuickBooks as required), map them to the correct GL, cost center, and contract line items, then monitor weekly actuals against forecasts. When variances exceed tolerance thresholds, you will flag them, propose corrective actions, and partner with project managers to re-forecast remaining spend and margin.
• • Drive accurate, timely billing that delights clients and accelerates cash. You will interpret complex contract terms—fixed-fee, T&M, milestone, or unit-price—and translate them into billing schedules. Generate draft invoices, attach supporting back-up, and route for PM and client approval. Track unbilled receivables weekly, chase missing time/expense entries, and ensure revenue is recognized in accordance with ASC 606.
• • Produce crisp, decision-ready financial reports. Each Monday you will deliver a concise dashboard showing budget vs. actual, earned value, backlog, and projected final margin. During month-end you will own project-related journal entries, reconcile WIP, and provide audit-ready support files. Ad-hoc, you will model “what-if” scenarios to help leadership decide whether to accept new scope or reallocate resources.
• • Champion cross-functional collaboration that breaks down silos. You will sit (virtually) at the intersection of Finance, Operations, Sales, and Legal—translating numbers into actionable insights for non-financial stakeholders. Participate in project kick-offs to ensure contract terms, billing milestones, and cost codes are correctly configured. During weekly PM stand-ups you will translate financial jargon into plain language so teams understand how their decisions impact margin.
• • Safeguard compliance and internal controls. You will enforce CAI’s SOX-light control framework by validating that labor charges are properly approved, subcontractor invoices match POs, and client change orders are signed before revenue is booked. Support internal and external audits with clean, traceable documentation.
• • Continuously improve the project accounting engine. Identify manual steps ripe for automation, propose system enhancements in Salesforce and Intacct, and document new SOPs. Lead data-cleansing sprints that improve reporting accuracy and reduce month-end close time.
