📋 Description

• Speak AI Inc. is on a mission to revolutionize language learning by providing an accessible, AI-powered tutor that enables users to speak and progress confidently. As a QA Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the quality and reliability of our innovative language learning application across both iOS and Android platforms.
• This is a 6-month contract position with the strong potential for conversion to a full-time role, offering a unique opportunity to contribute to a rapidly growing AI company that has secured significant venture funding from top-tier investors like OpenAI, Accel, and Founders Fund.
• You will be instrumental in designing, executing, and maintaining comprehensive test plans and cases, ensuring thorough coverage of all application features and functionalities.
• Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of testing types, including functional, regression, performance, analytics, and design testing, to identify and address any potential issues before they reach our users.
• A key aspect of this role involves meticulous defect tracking and documentation using industry-standard tools such as Linear, ensuring that bugs are clearly reported, prioritized, and resolved.
• You will act as a quality advocate, collaborating closely with developers, product managers, fellow QA team members, and other stakeholders to proactively resolve issues and ensure a seamless user experience.
• This includes actively participating in the triage and grooming of bug reports for your assigned features, and partnering with Product Operations on effective issue management strategies.
• You will be responsible for upholding a high-quality bar for all mobile releases, providing clear and informed go/no-go recommendations based on rigorous testing and risk assessment.
• A significant part of your contribution will involve maintaining comprehensive documentation of all testing activities, including detailed test cases and insightful reports, which will serve as a valuable resource for the team.
• You will actively engage with QA teammates, Engineers, and Product teams to identify bottlenecks and propose improvements to existing QA workflows, driving continuous optimization of our testing processes.
• Where appropriate, you will leverage QA automation tools to streamline repetitive testing tasks and reduce the effort required for manual regression testing, thereby increasing efficiency.
• You will be tasked with maintaining and interpreting key quality metrics, such as defect trends, escape rates, and test coverage, to provide data-driven insights that enhance release quality and accelerate delivery speed.
• The role demands a deep understanding of modern product development and release cycles, with a proven ability to influence critical quality decisions, including risk assessments and launch readiness evaluations.
• You will be expected to operate with a high degree of self-sufficiency, comfortable navigating ambiguity, and communicating effectively in asynchronous, cross-functional team environments.
• This position requires you to be present at our San Francisco HQ three days per week, fostering collaboration and team cohesion.

🎯 Requirements

• 3+ years of industry experience in mobile QA, with deep manual hands-on testing and debugging of user-facing applications across both iOS and Android.
• Strong ability to test and reason about asynchronous mobile systems, including network requests, streaming updates, background tasks, retries, timeouts, and offline/online transitions.
• Experience validating mobile analytics instrumentation, including funnels, retention events, and experiment exposure/assignment.
• Ability to design and execute robust test plans for experiments and feature flags, ensuring correct bucketing, guardrails, and safe rollout/rollback behavior.
• Experience applying network and device throttling to surface real-world performance and reliability issues.
• Ability to diagnose and debug flaky mobile tests, particularly those caused by concurrency, threading, or reactive pipelines (e.g., race conditions, timing issues).
• Approaches testing with an end-to-end user journey mindset, surfacing UX friction and ambiguous feedback alongside functional bugs.
• Strong understanding of modern product development and release processes, with a track record of influencing quality decisions (go/no-go calls, risk assessment, launch readiness).
• Highly self-sufficient and comfortable operating in ambiguity; communicates clearly in async, cross-functional environments.
• Able to work from the SF HQ 3 days per week.
• Bonus: Proven track record of designing and/or operationalizing agentic QA workflows that measurably improve testing leverage, coverage, release quality, reporting, or release decision-making.
• Bonus: Experience testing ASR or AI/ML-powered mobile functionality.
• Bonus: Hands-on experience designing and implementing AI-driven test automation systems for mobile applications.
