- • This role is for a Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer specializing in New Zealand construction projects, crucial for managing project costs and financial administration. You will be instrumental in ensuring the financial health and efficiency of high-quality residential building projects by meticulously overseeing estimating, cost tracking, variations, and procurement.
- • As a Quantity Surveyor / Cost Engineer, your daily responsibilities will encompass a wide range of critical financial and administrative tasks. You will be responsible for preparing detailed and accurate project quotes, meticulously breaking down costs for labor, materials, subcontractors, and profit margins. This involves reviewing supplier and subcontractor pricing to ensure accuracy and competitiveness, and then producing professionally formatted quotations ready for client submission. A key part of your role will be maintaining and updating estimating templates and pricing libraries within the designated system to ensure consistency and efficiency in future quoting processes. Furthermore, you will be tasked with identifying and documenting any project variations that arise due to changes in scope or unforeseen site conditions. This includes preparing detailed cost breakdowns and justification reports for these variations, maintaining a comprehensive variation register for each project, and ensuring that all approved variations are accurately reflected in project budgets and contract values. You will also be responsible for the timely and accurate preparation of progress claims and charge-up invoices, reconciling these claims against contract values and approved variations. Managing invoice-related queries from clients and internal teams, and maintaining complete and organized financial documentation for all projects will be integral to your role. Your day-to-day will also involve diligently monitoring project budgets against actual costs, likely within a system like Buildertrend, and tracking all cost categories, including labor, materials, and subcontractors. You will produce regular cost reports that highlight potential risks and variances, and proactively escalate any cost overruns with clear recommendations for corrective action. Tracking labor hours across active projects and comparing them against budgets will be a continuous task, leading to the preparation of productivity and labor utilization reports for management. You will collaborate closely with site teams to ensure labor forecasting aligns with actual site conditions and flag any significant variances for review. In terms of procurement and materials management, you will coordinate material ordering from the initial quotation stage through to delivery, ensuring that all procurement activities align with project timelines and budgets. Managing supplier relationships to ensure cost efficiency and reliability will be essential, as will reconciling purchase orders and supplier invoices. Finally, you will act as a key communication link between office staff, site teams, suppliers, and clients, supporting the continuous improvement of systems, templates, and workflows, and assisting in the development of standardized processes for enhanced efficiency and consistency across all projects. Maintaining professional communication with all stakeholders will be paramount.
- • You will be joining a well-established New Zealand construction company that has built a strong reputation for specializing in high-quality residential building projects. The company prides itself on its commitment to efficient project delivery, fostering transparent communication, and driving continuous improvement across all facets of its operations. This role is integral to the company's success, directly contributing to the accurate financial management of multiple active projects.
- • In this role, you will gain invaluable experience in cost engineering and quantity surveying within the context of New Zealand construction projects. You will develop a deep understanding of project financial administration, variation management, and procurement strategies. The opportunity to work with a reputable company and refine your skills in construction management software like Buildertrend will significantly enhance your professional development. You will also have the chance to contribute to process improvements, making a tangible impact on the company's operational efficiency and potentially learning about NZ construction standards and contract frameworks.
