📋 Description

• Own and execute long-term talent strategies to identify, engage, and recruit leading and emerging AI/ML researchers, research engineers, and technical scientists across industry, academia, and emerging labs.
• Partner directly with OpenAI’s research and technical staff to define hiring priorities, shape search strategies, and anticipate future talent needs as technical roadmaps evolve.
• Proactively cultivate relationships with top AI/ML research talent before formal hiring needs arise, often targeting candidates in highly specialized or nascent technical domains.
• Use market insights and candidate signals to influence hiring decisions, leveling, and compensation strategy for highly specialized research roles.
• Serve as a trusted advisor throughout candidate evaluation and closing, helping research leaders calibrate for research excellence, long-term potential, and organizational fit.
• Collaborate closely with sourcing partners to execute complex, high-impact searches in ambiguous or rapidly evolving technical areas such as machine learning, distributed systems, scientific computing, or quantitative research.
• Operate as a strategic partner embedded within the research organization, influencing the direction and quality of frontier-model research through talent acquisition decisions.
• Navigate high-stakes negotiations with senior technical and research candidates, including those from top academic institutions and leading AI companies.
• Adapt quickly to fast-moving environments where hiring priorities and role definitions may shift frequently due to advancements in AI research.
• Conduct end-to-end recruitment for roles requiring deep technical expertise, from early talent mapping through offer negotiation and onboarding.
• Maintain a deep understanding of global AI research trends, key institutions, and emerging research hubs to inform proactive talent sourcing.
• Ensure alignment between hiring outcomes and OpenAI’s mission to build safe artificial general intelligence that benefits all of humanity.
• Support a hybrid work model requiring three days per week in the London office, with optional remote work on Thursdays and Fridays.
• Leverage OpenAI’s office amenities including height-adjustable desks, well-stocked kitchens, three daily prepared meals, outdoor workspaces, wellness rooms, and private bike storage.
• Utilize relocation assistance provided to new employees moving to London for this role.

🎯 Requirements

• Significant experience recruiting within highly technical or specialized environments such as ML/AI, distributed systems, infrastructure, scientific computing, or quantitative research.
• Track record of leading complex, ambiguous technical searches from early talent mapping through close.
• Experience navigating high-stakes negotiations with senior technical or research candidates.
• Deep interest in AI research and engagement with global research communities.
• Proven ability to operate in fast-moving environments where hiring priorities and role definitions evolve rapidly.
• Demonstrated success in building trust and partnering strategically with technical research staff.
