  • • The Remote Inpatient Coding role at Guidehouse Inc. is critical to ensuring accurate, compliant, and timely billing for inpatient hospital services, directly impacting revenue cycle integrity and regulatory adherence for healthcare clients across the United States.
  • • This position plays a vital role in supporting Guidehouse’s mission to deliver high-value consulting and technology solutions to healthcare organizations by maintaining coding excellence that drives financial performance and reduces audit risk.
  • • Day-to-day responsibilities include maintaining current expertise in ICD-10-CM/PCS and CPT coding systems, federal and state regulations, and official coding guidelines from CMS and AHA.
  • • The coder will review and assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes to all inpatient services documented in patient charts, ensuring compliance with billing standards and third-party payer requirements.
  • • When documentation is incomplete or ambiguous, the coder will initiate timely physician queries or collaborate with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) teams to obtain necessary clarification per facility protocols.
  • • Achieving and sustaining a minimum 95% coding accuracy rate is required, while meeting productivity benchmarks of approximately 3 inpatient charts per hour, adjusted per client agreements and communicated by management.
  • • The role demands proficiency in major electronic health record (EHR) systems including EPIC, Cerner, Optum, and 3M Encoding System to efficiently navigate patient records and apply codes.
  • • A strong foundation in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential to correctly interpret clinical documentation and assign appropriate codes.
  • • Advanced understanding of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding clinics, including quarterly updates and official guidance, is required to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • • The coding team at Guidehouse operates as a specialized, remote-first unit focused on delivering precision coding services to acute care hospitals, health systems, and academic medical centers nationwide.
  • • Collaborating with a national network of certified coders, the team emphasizes quality, consistency, and continuous improvement through peer audits, feedback loops, and adherence to Guidehouse’s quality management framework.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Minimum 3-5 years of recent experience coding hospital acute care inpatient records.
  • • Active CCS, RHIT, or RHIA certification from AHIMA is required.
  • • Proven experience working with EHR and encoding systems such as EPIC, Cerner, Optum, and/or 3M.
  • • Advanced knowledge of ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS coding principles, official guidelines, and quarterly coding clinics.
  • • Solid working knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
  • • Ability to achieve and maintain 95% coding accuracy while meeting productivity standards of ~3 inpatient charts per hour.
