- • Research Engineers at Distyl build the bridge between frontier AI research and production systems that deliver real business value, improving the behavior, reliability, and usefulness of AI systems for enterprise customers.
- • Day to day, the person will design and run post-training workflows, develop datasets and evaluation suites, build experimentation infrastructure, analyze model outputs and failure modes, and collaborate with AI Researchers and Engineers to turn research into robust, deployed systems.
- • Distyl is an applied AI technology company partnering with major institutions in telecom, healthcare, insurance, manufacturing, and more to rearchitect critical operations using AI-native systems, backed by top investors and known for 100% production deployment success.
- • The person can learn to apply cutting-edge post-training techniques in real-world enterprise settings, gain ownership of high-impact projects, and develop expertise in aligning AI behavior with business outcomes through measurement-driven iteration.
🎯 Requirements
- • Experience improving model behavior through fine-tuning, preference optimization, reinforcement learning, reward modeling, synthetic data, or evaluation techniques
- • Strong programming and experimentation skills to build training/evaluation pipelines, run controlled experiments, and analyze results
- • Research-oriented mindset focused on understanding why behavior changes, not just benchmark improvements
- • AI systems thinking: understanding that model behavior is shaped by data, prompts, tools, retrieval, and deployment context—not weights alone
- • Comfort with applied constraints such as cost, latency, reliability, data availability, and customer requirements
- • Ownership mentality: taking responsibility for whether post-training work improves real system outcomes, not just offline scores
