• As a key member of our research and engineering team, you will contribute to the development and enhancement of cutting-edge technologies that are setting the pace for the entire Ethereum ecosystem. Your work will directly impact the Arbitrum stack, the most widely adopted Ethereum scaling solution, powering Arbitrum One and enabling hundreds of projects and decentralized applications.
• You will engage in deep research and development, exploring novel approaches to cryptographic primitives, consensus mechanisms, virtual machines, and other foundational elements of blockchain technology. This includes designing, implementing, and rigorously testing new protocols and algorithms that enhance performance, security, and decentralization.
• Collaborate with a world-class team of researchers and engineers to translate theoretical breakthroughs into practical, production-ready solutions. You will be involved in the entire lifecycle of innovation, from initial concept and theoretical validation to robust implementation and deployment.
• Contribute to the advancement of Offchain Labs' core technologies, such as Arbitrum, Prysm, and ZeroDev, which are actively reshaping the possibilities within Ethereum and its surrounding infrastructure. Your efforts will directly support the growth of a thriving ecosystem that includes major players like Robinhood, BlackRock, Ethena Labs, Securitize, Aave, and Apechain.
• Analyze and optimize existing systems to improve efficiency, reduce latency, and increase throughput without compromising security or decentralization. This may involve performance profiling, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing algorithmic or architectural improvements.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in cryptography, distributed systems, and blockchain research. Proactively identify emerging trends and technologies that could be leveraged to further enhance Offchain Labs' offerings and maintain our competitive edge.
• Participate in the design and execution of experiments to validate research hypotheses and benchmark the performance of new algorithms and protocols. This includes developing testing frameworks and analyzing results to inform future development.
• Document your research findings, technical designs, and implementation details thoroughly. Contribute to technical whitepapers, research publications, and internal knowledge-sharing initiatives to disseminate knowledge within the team and the broader community.
• Engage with the open-source community, contributing to the development and improvement of public blockchain infrastructure and related tools. This may involve code contributions, participating in discussions, and providing technical guidance.
• You will have the opportunity to work on challenging problems related to zero-knowledge proofs, secure multi-party computation, advanced consensus algorithms, and novel virtual machine designs, all aimed at pushing the boundaries of what is achievable in the blockchain space.

🎯 Requirements

• Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.) in Computer Science, Cryptography, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Strong theoretical and practical understanding of cryptography, distributed systems, and blockchain fundamentals.
• Proven experience in designing, implementing, and analyzing complex algorithms and data structures.
• Proficiency in at least one systems programming language (e.g., Rust, Go, C++).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and creatively.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts clearly.
