- • RL Deep Learning Engineer (Remote) at Midpage, Inc. – Build the first reinforcement learning environments and benchmarks for long-horizon legal reasoning, enabling AI agents to perform complex legal tasks like cite checks, motion drafting, and precedent research using real US court filings.
- • Design and scale systems that turn millions of real court filings into verifiable evaluation environments and RL training tasks; own the data pipeline from collection to task generation; integrate with partner harnesses and model APIs for contamination-free evaluations; collaborate with attorneys to structure legal workflows into scorable tasks using the Harbor spec.
- • Join a small, high-impact team of 7 in Bowery, lower Manhattan, powering a legal data search engine used by over 300 law firms, 200k+ monthly visitors, and multibillion-dollar AI companies like Perplexity; the company’s ARR grew from $400k to $2M in just 4 months.
- • Own end-to-end infrastructure for legal AI evaluation, gain deep expertise in RL environments, legal data pipelines, and frontier AI model testing; shape how future models understand and reason with legal text while working directly with attorneys and AI lab partners.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong generalist software engineering fundamentals with experience building, scaling, and maintaining diverse systems in production
- • Ability to own entire systems end-to-end without requiring detailed specs or product managers, taking full project ownership
- • Deep experience with Python; bonus for TypeScript; capable of solving hard engineering problems independently
- • Kind, self-managing, and clear communicator who makes effective use of AI coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or Codex while writing strong code without reliance on them
