Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Transform clinical complexity into crystal-clear documentation that safeguards patient safety, drives accurate reimbursement, and fuels population-health insights across Ochsner’s 46-hospital network—your reviews will directly influence care quality for 1.5 million annual patient encounters.
- • Own the full continuum of documentation integrity from admission to discharge: query providers in real time, validate principal and secondary diagnoses, clarify procedures, and ensure every comorbidity and complication is captured to reflect true severity of illness and risk of mortality.
- • Serve as the authoritative clinical voice in multidisciplinary huddles—translating bedside observations into compliant ICD-10 language for coders, CDI teammates, and quality reviewers—while using secure remote platforms to maintain HIPAA-grade privacy from any U.S. location.
- • Detect and trend documentation gaps (e.g., missing specificity for heart failure, sepsis criteria, or surgical complications) and convert findings into data-driven presentations that guide hospital leadership in resource allocation, physician education, and performance-improvement initiatives.
- • Champion regulatory excellence by aligning every chart with CMS, Joint Commission, and Louisiana state requirements; immediately escalate suspected fraud, abuse, or unethical conduct through Ochsner’s compliance hotline, reinforcing a culture of integrity that has earned 12 straight years as Louisiana’s #1 hospital.
- • Master Windows-based encoder/grouper software, Epic, 3M 360 Encompass, and proprietary analytics dashboards—achieving query turnaround times under industry benchmarks while maintaining >95 % accuracy on concurrent reviews.
- • Adapt communication style to resonate with surgeons in high-acuity ICUs, pediatricians in NICUs, and community-based PCPs—leveraging cultural competence and plain-language explanations to close documentation gaps without disrupting clinical workflows.
- • Commit to continuous professional growth by completing quarterly virtual CDI boot camps, pursuing CCDS or CDIP certification within 18 months, and mentoring new hires across 370+ care sites, ensuring the team stays ahead of evolving coding and quality mandates.
- • Provide flexible coverage—including rotating weekend, holiday, and on-call shifts—to match the 24/7 rhythms of a not-for-profit system that has delivered uninterrupted care since 1942, knowing your remote presence keeps patients safe and revenue cycles healthy.
- • Celebrate the tangible impact of your work: every accurately coded sepsis case secures life-saving resources, every clarified DRG supports fair reimbursement for charity care, and every trend report helps Ochsner reinvest in community clinics across the Gulf South.
🎯 Requirements
- • Current, unrestricted RN license in any U.S. state with compact privileges or the ability to obtain Louisiana licensure within 30 days of hire.
- • Minimum of three (3) years of recent acute-care bedside experience in medical-surgical, critical care, or emergency nursing—demonstrating clinical judgment sufficient to validate severity of illness and query providers.
- • Proficiency with Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office 365, and at least one major EHR (Epic, Cerner, or Meditech); prior exposure to encoder/grouper software (3M, TruCode) strongly preferred.
- • CCDS, CDIP, or CCS certification—or eligibility to obtain one within 18 months of hire—supported by documented continuing education in clinical documentation integrity.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Fully remote work arrangement with flexible scheduling options and a one-time $1,000 home-office stipend to ensure ergonomic, HIPAA-compliant workspace.
- • Comprehensive health, dental, vision, and prescription coverage effective on day one, plus employer-funded HSA contributions and free virtual primary-care visits for employees and dependents.
- • 401(k) with 6 % employer match, immediate vesting, and optional Roth conversion; additional 457(b) deferred-compensation plan for high-earning specialists.
- • Up to $5,250 annual tuition reimbursement, paid CDI certification fees, and access to Ochsner’s internal learning portal with 2,000+ on-demand CE courses.
