Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Serve as the primary editorial owner for system cards and related transparency artifacts, guiding them from initiation through final publication with rigorous accuracy and clarity.
  • • Translate highly technical safety findings from researchers, evaluators, red-teamers, and policy experts into public-facing materials that are accessible to policymakers, journalists, researchers, and external experts without sacrificing precision or nuance.
  • • Shape the narrative structure, framing, and editorial flow of transparency artifacts to clearly communicate what OpenAI has done, why it matters, and where uncertainty remains.
  • • Exercise strong editorial judgment to determine essential context, identify critical caveats, and determine where additional supporting evidence or explanation is needed to strengthen public understanding.
  • • Collaborate closely with Safety Programs, technical researchers, evaluators, red-teaming teams, legal partners, communications, product marketing, and launch stakeholders to ensure alignment and fidelity to underlying technical work.
  • • Improve and standardize repeatable editorial processes, templates, and publication workflows to increase consistency, quality, and scalability of safety transparency outputs.
  • • Leverage AI tools not only for drafting and synthesis but to redesign editorial workflows—automating repetitive tasks, identifying precedents, preparing reviewer packets, and enhancing cross-artifact consistency.
  • • Build systems and tools that make the production of transparency artifacts faster, more scalable, and more effective over time, including AI-assisted workflows and data visualizations.
  • • Contribute to the evolution and enhancement of the Deployment Safety Hub as a trusted, authoritative source for understanding OpenAI’s technical safety work.
  • • Support the creation and editing of safety-related blogs, public governance documents, technical explainers, and other communications as needed.
  • • Maintain intellectual honesty and rigor by respecting technical complexity, avoiding oversimplification, and ensuring all public claims are grounded in evidence.
  • • Develop fluency in frontier AI safety concepts quickly, independently learning new technical domains to accurately represent complex safety evaluations, preparedness frameworks, and mitigation strategies.
  • • Balance confidence in editorial voice and judgment with humility, openness to feedback, and deep respect for technical nuance and evidence.
  • • Drive projects end-to-end, from conceptualization to publication, owning accountability for the quality, accuracy, and impact of all transparency outputs.
  • • Identify opportunities to systematize, automate, and improve editorial practices using AI, with a focus on long-term efficiency and organizational scalability.
  • • Ensure all public artifacts faithfully represent both the safety measures implemented and the limitations or unknowns inherent in current AI safety research.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Exceptional writing and editing skills with the ability to make highly technical topics clear, precise, and accessible without sacrificing rigor.
  • • Strong editorial judgment to identify narrative threads in ambiguous or complex material and determine what context, caveats, or evidence are essential for public understanding.
  • • Proven ability to own complex, multi-stakeholder projects from start to finish with high accountability and execution discipline.
  • • Deep familiarity with AI tools in editorial workflows, including using AI to automate tasks, improve consistency, synthesize sources, and build scalable systems.
  • • Ability to quickly learn unfamiliar technical domains and develop fluency in frontier AI safety concepts.
  • • Experience collaborating with technical experts to translate their work into public-facing materials without oversimplifying or misrepresenting it.

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Opportunity to shape the public understanding of AI safety at one of the world’s leading AI research organizations.
  • • Access to cutting-edge AI tools and technologies to enhance editorial workflows and build innovative transparency systems.
  • • Collaborative environment with top-tier researchers, engineers, policy experts, and communications professionals.
  • • Mission-driven work focused on ensuring AI benefits all of humanity with rigor, transparency, and ethical responsibility.
