- • Teach 11-week live, online science courses in Environmental Science with Integrated Lab (4 quarter credits) and General Biology with Integrated Lab (4 quarter credits) using student-centered instructional strategies.
- • Deliver synchronous online instruction that fosters active learning, scientific reasoning, empirical inquiry, and evidence evaluation as transferable intellectual skills.
- • Design and facilitate fully online lab experiences using digital tools to ensure accessibility and hands-on learning for all students.
- • Create an inclusive and supportive virtual classroom environment that encourages participation from students with varying levels of scientific preparation and confidence.
- • Make consistent real-world connections to help students understand the relevance of scientific concepts to their professional and civic lives.
- • Provide timely, constructive feedback on student work and respond to all student inquiries within 24 hours.
- • Host weekly virtual office hours to deepen student understanding and build community among learners.
- • Collaborate with Teaching Assistants to co-manage course logistics, including mentoring TAs on effective grading practices and student engagement techniques.
- • Evaluate student progress, maintain accurate grade records, and submit mid-quarter and end-of-quarter evaluations.
- • Stay current on science pedagogy trends, emerging online lab technologies, and best practices for teaching nontraditional learners.
- • Contribute to co-curricular programming such as speaker series and networking events to enhance the student experience.
- • Participate in peer collaboration and professional development sessions with Campus faculty and staff to continuously improve course design and delivery.
- • Engage with Campus’s all-in-one platform (Campuswire) and work with a dedicated Academic Operations team to minimize administrative burdens and focus on teaching.
- • Commit to 8–10 hours per week per course, with flexibility to align teaching terms with personal availability across upcoming academic quarters.
- • Demonstrate commitment to equity, access, and supporting students from historically underserved backgrounds in higher education.
- • Maintain strong content knowledge in introductory-level environmental science and/or biology.
- • Communicate complex scientific concepts clearly and adapt explanations until they resonate with diverse learners.
- • Be proactive, reliable, and dedicated to delivering high-quality online education at scale.
🎯 Requirements
- • Master's degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Ecology, Earth Science, Life Sciences, Science Education, or a closely related field
- • At least 3 years of college-level science teaching experience
- • Demonstrated ability to design and facilitate meaningful lab experiences in a fully online format
- • Strong content knowledge in environmental science and/or biology at the introductory college level
- • Experience teaching scientific reasoning and evidence evaluation as transferable intellectual skills
- • Comfort teaching students with varying levels of scientific preparation and confidence
