- • Join the MongoDB Query Team as a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our state-of-the-art distributed query system.
- • This is a unique opportunity to work on the core of MongoDB, focusing on the MongoDB Query Language (MQL) and the entire lifecycle of a query, from its initial parsing through complex optimization stages to final execution plan selection.
- • You will be instrumental in maintaining and enhancing our sophisticated optimization and execution frameworks, as well as contributing to the development of new query language features that empower our customers to run their most critical workloads with confidence.

- • As an SDET Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust automated tests and comprehensive testing frameworks specifically for the MongoDB query engine.
- • This includes a significant focus on performance testing, where you will design, develop, and maintain automated tests and frameworks to ensure the query engine operates with optimal speed and efficiency under various loads.
- • You will collaborate closely with talented software engineers and other team members to gain a deep understanding of new features and functionalities, proactively ensuring their testability and developing automated tests that cover both standard 'happy-path' scenarios and intricate edge cases.
- • A key aspect of your role will involve identifying, isolating, and meticulously documenting bugs and issues discovered within the database query system. You will work hand-in-hand with developers to ensure these issues are effectively resolved, contributing to a more stable and reliable product.
- • You will be empowered to enhance and extend our existing automation framework, driving improvements in test coverage, reducing execution times, and developing sophisticated tooling for diagnostics and performance analysis.
- • Your expertise will be sought after in reviewing and approving testing plans during the design phase of Query team projects. Upon project completion, you will certify that the project has met its defined commitments regarding test coverage, acting as a guardian of quality.
- • You will provide constructive feedback during code reviews, with a specific emphasis on the robustness, reliability, and testability of code changes, helping to instill a quality-first mindset across the team.
- • Success in this role is measured by tangible contributions: within three months, you'll grasp MongoDB's MQL syntax, semantics, and the nuances of our query engine, identifying key areas for testing improvements. By six months, you'll be a recognized owner of automated tests, demonstrating measurable improvements in test efficiency and coverage, and significantly contributing to upcoming releases. Within twelve months, you will be a driving force behind the quality assurance of major new features, setting a benchmark for best practices in correctness and performance test automation for new team members.

🎯 Requirements
- • Minimum of 3 years of experience in QA automation or software development with a strong focus on test automation.
- • Significant programming experience, demonstrating a strong ability to write clean, efficient, and maintainable code.
- • A genuine passion for shipping high-quality software and a commitment to excellence in testing.
- • Proven experience in testing complex, multi-tiered backend systems or distributed systems.
- • Solid foundation in computer science principles, including data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture.
- • Experience in designing, implementing, and maintaining custom test frameworks to validate functionality, reliability, and performance.
- • Proficiency in writing and maintaining automated tests for large and complex codebases.
- • Experience in developing performance test plans and monitoring frameworks.
- • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- • Experience with distributed query processing engines and performance testing is a strong plus.
- • Background in databases, data management systems, and a deep understanding of database query engines is highly desirable.
