- • The Seasonal Backcountry Bike Gearhead role is a customer-facing position focused on delivering expert product knowledge and personalized service to cyclists shopping at Competitive Cyclist and Backcountry. This role is critical to building customer loyalty and driving sales by translating technical bike expertise into meaningful, engaging interactions that differentiate the brand experience.
- • Day to day, the Gearhead will assist customers via phone, chat, or email with product inquiries, fit recommendations, component compatibility, and gear selection — drawing on deep knowledge of road and mountain bikes, drivetrains, saddles, apparel, and build types (e.g., gravel vs. cyclocross). They will provide authentic, enthusiastic guidance that reflects a genuine passion for cycling and ownership of the customer experience.
- • The team is part of CSC Generation Holdings, Inc., which operates Competitive Cyclist and Backcountry — leading specialty retailers in the cycling and outdoor space. The Gearhead team serves as the frontline ambassador of brand values, where technical mastery and customer-centric service directly impact retention, purchase frequency, and overall business growth.
- • In this role, the person will deepen their expertise in cycling product technology, refine consultative sales and communication skills, and gain experience in high-touch customer service within a fast-growing e-commerce environment. They will learn how product knowledge translates into customer trust and brand differentiation, positioning them for advancement in retail, customer experience, or cycling industry roles.
🎯 Requirements
- • Deep, hands-on knowledge of road and/or mountain bike components, fit, apparel, and gear
- • Ability to speak fluently with customers about drivetrain compatibility, saddle selection, and differences between bike builds (e.g., gravel vs. cyclocross)
- • Passion for cycling and genuine enthusiasm for helping riders find the right gear
- • Strong customer service skills with a focus on authentic, meaningful interactions
- • Availability for paid training from May 26–June 9, 2026 (Mon–Fri, 9am–5pm MST) with no absences permitted
- • Must be available at least one weekend day per week and have weekday availability until 9pm MST post-training
