- • As a Security Infrastructure Engineer at Tailscale, you will design and build security controls across diverse layers—including cloud platforms, operating systems, Kubernetes, networks, and CI/CD—to defend against sophisticated adversaries and insider threats, directly contributing to the security and privacy of Tailscale’s product used by individuals and enterprises worldwide.
- • Your day-to-day responsibilities include improving Tailscale’s security properties by identifying and implementing security and privacy features, auditing infrastructure for technical weaknesses, supporting engineering decisions with threat modeling and security analysis, and spending 25-50% of your time writing software in Go and Infrastructure as Code tools like Terraform and Ansible.

- • In this role, you will deepen your expertise in cloud security, container and orchestration security, OS internals, and networking protocols while acting as a Subject Matter Expert during security incidents, growing your impact as a trusted security advisor within a highly technical, collaborative, and asynchronous team.
🎯 Requirements
- • Expertise in the security of cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), especially securing multi-cloud networks and infrastructure, and designing cloud agnostic systems
- • Proficiency developing in at least one programming language (Tailscale uses Go) and Infrastructure as Code tooling (e.g. Terraform, Ansible)
- • Prior experience in a safety-related technical role, such as infrastructure security, security operations, threat modeling and prioritization, or digital forensics and incident response
- • Knowledge of operating system internals and security mechanisms and common networking protocols
- • Ability to act as a Subject Matter Expert during security incidents, focusing on infrastructure-level containment and remediation
- • Ability to give and process constructive feedback, work independently and collaboratively, and adjust to the dynamic nature of a startup
