📋 Description

  • At Upside, we are revolutionizing brick-and-mortar commerce by infusing it with the analytical rigor and sophisticated strategies typically found in online retail. Our innovative technology empowers businesses to understand profit measurement, attribution, and incrementality, while simultaneously delivering enhanced value to consumers on their everyday purchases. We have a proven track record of success, having enabled millions of users to receive significantly more cashback than any other platform and helped hundreds of thousands of brick-and-mortar businesses achieve measurable profit growth. With billions of dollars in commerce transacting through the Upside platform annually, we are committed to directing this value back to our retail partners, the consumers they serve, and vital sustainability initiatives.
  • We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Analyst, Marketing Analytics to take ownership of full-funnel performance insights for Upside’s consumer marketing efforts. This critical role spans the entire customer journey, from initial acquisition through engagement, retention, and ultimately, lifetime value. You will be instrumental in shaping how we understand and optimize our consumer marketing investments.
  • As a trusted, hands-on strategic partner to our Consumer Marketing team, you will be expected to go beyond surface-level reporting. Your primary responsibility will be to delve deep into the data, uncovering the underlying reasons for performance variations across various channels, creatives, audiences, promotions, and on-site/app experiences. You will be the bridge between complex data and actionable strategy, translating your findings into clear, compelling narratives and data-driven recommendations that will directly influence our marketing spend, conversion rate optimization, and long-term user engagement strategies.
  • This role demands a robust B2C marketing analytics toolkit, a strong inclination towards experimentation, and a startup-ready bias for action. You should be comfortable navigating the entire data lifecycle, from raw data exploration and dashboard creation to formulating a decisive point-of-view for senior leadership. Your ability to connect the dots between disparate data sources and present insights concisely will be key to your success.
  • Key Responsibilities:
  • Own the end-to-end reporting and insights generation for the entire consumer marketing funnel, encompassing acquisition and retention. This includes deep dives into media efficiency, on-site/app conversion rates, user activation, engagement metrics, and long-term retention/Lifetime Value (LTV).
  • Independently define, prioritize, and execute comprehensive analytics projects in close collaboration with the Marketing team. You will manage the entire project lifecycle, from accurately framing the business problem to delivering actionable recommendations and ensuring their follow-through.
  • Develop and maintain robust, transparent, and reliable metrics frameworks to evaluate performance at the channel, campaign, ad-set, and audience levels. Key metrics will include Customer Acquisition Cost (CAC), Return on Ad Spend (ROAS), LTV:CAC ratio, conversion rates, and retention rates. This ensures a consistent, single source of truth for rapid assessment of channel mix, creative effectiveness, audience targeting, and offer performance across all marketing channels.
  • Act as the primary analytics liaison for the Consumer Marketing department. You will foster strong collaborative relationships with acquisition, brand, and lifecycle marketing teams, translating their business questions into rigorous analytical frameworks, insightful findings, and effective experimentation plans.
  • Proactively identify and communicate key insights related to creative performance, audience segmentation, and funnel dynamics. You will be expected to propose concrete recommendations on where to increase investment, address underperformance, or initiate new testing strategies, moving far beyond basic data reporting.
  • Collaborate with senior analytics team members to interpret outputs from Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM), attribution studies, and incrementality analyses. You will translate these complex findings into practical, channel-level and funnel-level recommendations and propose future experimental directions.
  • Partner with lifecycle and product marketing teams to design, execute, and iterate on tests focused on messaging, user journey sequencing, and the optimization of various touchpoints (email, push notifications, in-app messages, website/app interfaces) to enhance user activation, engagement, and reactivation over time.
  • Conduct thorough diagnostics of performance dips across all facets of consumer growth. You will identify specific experiments and optimization levers, such as novel audience strategies, compelling creative approaches, refined offer structures, or improvements to on-site/app conversion pathways, to drive better consumer performance.
  • Design and implement automated reporting systems and alerting mechanisms to promptly flag significant shifts in performance metrics and overall funnel health. This will enable the team to react swiftly to emerging risks and capitalize on opportunities.
  • Work closely with Finance and Consumer team stakeholders to establish alignment on forecasting models, campaign pacing, and performance targets. You will be responsible for linking media and lifecycle marketing performance directly to profitable, scalable growth and Internal Rate of Return (IRR).
  • Support advanced analytics initiatives, such as detailed cohort and retention analyses, sophisticated audience segmentation studies, and in-depth attribution/measurement deep-dives, in partnership with senior analytics leaders. Your contribution will be crucial in synthesizing these detailed findings into clear, concise narratives suitable for executive-level review.
  • Engage with Analytics Engineering, Product, and MarTech teams to enhance upstream data infrastructure. This includes improving event tracking accuracy, refining attribution signals, ensuring robust identity stitching, and standardizing channel taxonomies to power more accurate marketing reporting and experimentation.

🎯 Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive experience in marketing analytics, growth analytics, or closely related roles, with a strong focus on supporting B2C businesses (e.g., marketplaces, mobile apps, e-commerce, subscription services, or consumer internet companies).
  • Demonstrated experience with B2C marketing analytics is mandatory. Prior experience with app-based products or mobile user acquisition and lifecycle management is considered a significant advantage.
  • Expert-level proficiency in SQL is essential, coupled with proven experience working with large, complex marketing and product datasets within modern data warehousing environments.
  • Hands-on experience with mobile-first marketing and measurement platforms (such as AppsFlyer, Haus), mobile-first acquisition channels (including Apple Search Ads, Google UAC, Meta), and lifecycle management tools (like Braze) for analyzing and optimizing full-funnel performance.
  • Proven ability to build impactful dashboards and reports using Business Intelligence (BI) tools (e.g., Looker, Hex, or similar platforms) that effectively drive action and provide clear insights for non-technical stakeholders.
  • A solid foundational understanding of digital marketing and growth principles across paid media (social, search, app), CRM/lifecycle marketing (email, push notifications, in-app messages, SMS), and on-site/app conversion funnels. This includes a strong grasp of key performance indicators such as CAC, ROAS, LTV, retention rates, and engagement metrics.
  • Practical, hands-on experience with experimentation methodologies, including A/B testing, multivariate testing, and lift studies. This includes the ability to define appropriate success metrics and interpret test results with statistical rigor.
  • A demonstrated track record of moving beyond basic reporting to dissect complex problems, explore data from multiple perspectives, and formulate clear, opinionated recommendations that demonstrably influence marketing strategy and investment decisions.
  • Exceptional communication and data storytelling skills. You must be adept at simplifying complex quantitative analyses, tailoring your communication style to resonate with both marketing partners and executive leadership, and building trust through transparent and honest dialogue.
  • A highly collaborative and low-ego approach to teamwork. You thrive in environments where you can work closely with marketers, readily engage with ambiguous or messy data, and iterate rapidly within a fast-paced startup setting.
  • A strong growth mindset, inherent intellectual curiosity, and comfort operating effectively amidst ambiguity. You are continuously seeking innovative methods to measure performance, drive learning, and maximize impact.
