📋 Description
- • As a Senior Backend Engineer at Stay AI, you will be instrumental in architecting, developing, and scaling the core systems that form the backbone of our subscription management platform. You will operate at the critical intersection of platform engineering and e-commerce, building durable, scalable systems that integrate deeply with Shopify to serve hundreds of subscription brands and millions of their subscribers.
- • This role demands a blend of execution, exceptional engineering craftsmanship, and collaborative spirit. You will have the opportunity to influence architectural decisions and shape the technical direction of our product, ensuring its reliability, maintainability, and performance.
- • You will partner closely with Product, Design, and fellow Engineering team members to translate complex business requirements into robust technical solutions. Your work will directly impact the seamless operation of Stay AI within the Shopify ecosystem, enabling our merchants to thrive.
- • A typical day might involve tackling significant architectural challenges, such as redesigning our webhook processing architecture to anticipate and support a tenfold increase in growth. You could be architecting a new abstraction layer designed to decouple our internal subscription models from Shopify's order primitives, enhancing flexibility and future-proofing our codebase.
- • You will lead technical deep-dives into specific Shopify functionalities, like GraphQL bulk operations, analyzing performance trade-offs and identifying optimal implementation strategies. Furthermore, you'll be responsible for authoring Requests for Comments (RFCs) to formally define and document the next generation of Stay AI’s integration framework, ensuring clarity and alignment across the engineering team.
- • Your contributions will extend to reviewing critical infrastructure pull requests, providing expert guidance to other engineers on best practices for distributed systems design. You will also be hands-on in implementing new APIs and services that unlock advanced subscription management and analytics features for our merchants, directly contributing to their success.
- • Identifying opportunities to improve engineering efficiency will be a key aspect of your role. This includes designing and developing internal tooling that empowers yourself and your colleagues, streamlining workflows and enhancing productivity.
- • Collaboration is paramount. You will actively engage with your teammates across Engineering, Design, and Product Management to collaboratively plan, execute, and iterate on new projects, fostering a culture of shared ownership and continuous improvement.
- • The scale of our operations means you'll be working with complex data processing pipelines, ensuring resilience and high availability for services that handle synchronous and asynchronous data. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining and enhancing these systems as our merchant base and subscriber volume grow.

🎯 Requirements
- • 4+ years of experience developing large-scale, resilient services with well-defined APIs that interact with synchronous and asynchronous data processing pipelines.
- • Experience with Nest.js and Kubernetes, and supporting highly available and reliable cloud-based services.
- • Experience defining API schemas and working with REST APIs to communicate with the server.
- • Experience with AWS (Kubernetes, SQS, Postgres, RDS), including the application of security best practices.
- • Experience working with the Shopify platform and APIs, especially around subscription or recurring payments.
- • Ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment, demonstrating adaptability, curiosity, and a willingness to take initiative.
