Full Job Description
📋 Description
- • Design and build the server-side foundation to transition Castle Busters from a client-authoritative game to a competitive, server-validated multiplayer experience.
- • Implement server-side validation for the metagame including currency systems, card upgrades, chest opens, and progression mechanics, staged by risk to replicate economy and reward logic on the server.
- • Shift game state authority from the client to the server to ensure trustworthiness and fairness in competitive PvP gameplay.
- • Design and develop APIs and player-state management systems that the Unity client integrates with, defining the split of responsibilities between client and server.
- • Work closely with client engineers and game designers from initial feature design through delivery, validation, and iterative improvement.
- • Contribute to and extend Voodoo’s shared gaming backend platform — the same architecture powering titles like Mob Control and Block Jam 3D — while maintaining consistency with established patterns.
- • Own the backend infrastructure for Castle Busters as its requirements evolve, ensuring scalability and reliability under high player loads.
- • Collaborate with the wider backend team to share knowledge, improve platform components, and integrate new solutions into the shared infrastructure.
- • Solve complex problems related to scalability, performance, and system integration in high-stakes, high-traffic gaming environments.
- • Apply strong analytical skills to identify bottlenecks, optimize system behavior, and implement robust solutions for real-time multiplayer game logic.
- • Work autonomously within a small, dedicated game team while maintaining clear communication with cross-functional stakeholders.
- • Participate in agile development cycles, contributing to sprint planning, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
- • Leverage existing backend solutions at Voodoo while innovating new features tailored to Castle Busters’ unique gameplay needs.
- • Ensure all server-side code is written in Golang, adhering to performance, security, and maintainability standards.
- • Support the transition of critical game systems from client-side computation to server-side enforcement to prevent cheating and ensure competitive integrity.
- • Help shape the technical direction of the game’s backend by proposing and implementing new architectural approaches aligned with Voodoo’s platform standards.
🎯 Requirements
- • 7+ years of backend development experience
- • Extreme fluency in Golang
- • Mastery of SQL and NoSQL
- • Background in high-scale systems
- • Experience working in cross-functional agile teams
