📋 Description

• The Senior Conversational AI & Prompt Engineer will design, optimize, and maintain conversational experiences across voice and chat-based AI systems for a pioneering telehealth company specializing in personalized weight loss programs using GLP-1 medications, ensuring natural, accurate, and clinically aligned patient interactions that support sustainable health outcomes through innovation and safety.
• This role is critical to shaping how patients engage with digital care systems, directly influencing user satisfaction, retention, and clinical safety by reducing hallucination rates and latency while maintaining a unified AI persona across SMS, web chat, and phone interactions in a regulated telehealth environment.
• Day-to-day responsibilities include designing, developing, and refining high-performance prompts for Voice AI agents and chatbots using Retell AI and Vapi to ensure clarity, engagement, and alignment with the brand’s clinical voice; debugging and optimizing prompts to improve response accuracy, natural language flow, and user satisfaction across text and voice interactions; managing context continuity so AI systems maintain patient history and conversational state across chat-based and voice-based interactions.
• The role involves utilizing orchestration tools such as LangChain, OpenAI Assistants API, or similar frameworks to build logic-driven conversational experiences; implementing SSML and phonetic optimization for voice applications while using Markdown and structured data for chat interfaces to enhance real-time responsiveness and conversational turn-taking.
• The engineer will apply direct-to-consumer experience to tailor conversational flows for telehealth users, balancing empathy, medical guardrails, and conversion objectives; maintain a consistent AI persona across all patient touchpoints to create a unified concierge-style experience for GLP-1 users; partner with clinical, product, and engineering teams to align AI behavior with medical protocols and business goals.
• Additional duties include generating performance reports, analyzing transcripts and call logs, and recommending improvements based on user feedback and behavioral data; monitoring trends in speech-to-text, text-to-speech, and LLM reasoning to identify opportunities for innovation and competitive differentiation in telehealth; running A/B testing on prompts to optimize conversion and information accuracy.
• The team operates within a rapidly growing health technology environment focused on reshaping weight management through personalized digital care, combining healthcare expertise with technology to deliver medically supervised, data-driven solutions.
• The company is fully remote with a requirement to work during U.S. business hours (9 AM – 5 PM EST) to support U.S.-based clients, welcoming candidates from LATAM, Africa, and Eastern Europe.
• In this role, the individual will gain deep expertise in clinical conversational AI within regulated telehealth, mastering prompt engineering for voice and text systems while contributing to safer, more empathetic patient interactions that improve health outcomes.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in prompt engineering across voice AI and text-based conversational systems
• Proven experience with Retell AI and Vapi for real-time voice interactions
• Experience with chat orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, OpenAI Assistants API, or similar LLM wrappers
• Direct-to-consumer experience, particularly in health-related support or high-intent customer journeys
• Ability to run A/B testing on prompts to optimize conversion and information accuracy
• Strong analytical ability to evaluate conversational performance and troubleshoot real-time voice latency issues
