📋 Description

• Architect and scale the data backbone that powers how millions of people discover, book, and attend life-changing fitness and wellness experiences. As a Senior Data Engineer at Mindbody, you will design resilient, high-throughput pipelines that ingest billions of events from ClassPass bookings, Mindbody studio schedules, wearable integrations, and partner APIs—turning raw activity into real-time insights that guide product strategy and personalization.
• Own the end-to-end lifecycle of our cloud-native data platform, from streaming ingestion (Kafka, Kinesis) through transformation (Spark, dbt) to serving layer (Snowflake, Redshift, DynamoDB). You will define partitioning strategies, optimize columnar storage, and implement incremental processing patterns that keep latency under 30 seconds for mission-critical dashboards used by studio partners and internal growth teams.
• Partner with Data Science, Product, and Marketing to translate ambiguous business questions into elegant data models. Recent examples include building a propensity-to-churn model that reduced ClassPass cancellations by 12 % and a look-alike audience engine that lifted paid-acquisition ROI by 28 %. You will mentor analysts on dimensional modeling best practices and review SQL/Scala code to ensure every table is discoverable, documented, and reproducible.
• Establish data governance and privacy guardrails that satisfy SOC 2, GDPR, and CCPA requirements across 130+ countries. You will implement fine-grained access controls, PII tokenization, and automated quality checks (Great Expectations, Monte Carlo) that surface anomalies before they reach downstream ML models or executive reports.
• Champion a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement. You will lead blameless postmortems when pipelines fail, evangelize Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, CloudFormation), and run weekly guild sessions on emerging technologies like lakehouse architectures, Flink SQL, or Rust-based data services.
• Optimize compute and storage costs without compromising performance. Last quarter, the data team saved $420 k annually by migrating legacy MapReduce jobs to on-demand Databricks pools and implementing intelligent lifecycle policies that archive cold partitions to Glacier within 48 hours of creation.
• Collaborate with Platform Engineering to expose clean, versioned datasets through REST and GraphQL APIs that mobile and web teams consume to power dynamic pricing, inventory alerts, and personalized search rankings. You will set SLAs (99.9 % uptime, <200 ms p95 latency) and monitor them via Datadog dashboards and SLO burn-rate alerts.
• Contribute to open-source projects and speak at meetups or conferences on behalf of Mindbody. We underwrite travel, provide abstract coaching, and grant 10 % time for community contributions—recent team members have become committers on Airflow and dbt-core.

🎯 Requirements

• 5 + years designing and operating petabyte-scale data platforms in AWS or GCP, including deep expertise with Spark, Kafka, and a columnar warehouse such as Snowflake or BigQuery.
• Production-level Python or Scala skills, fluency in SQL, and comfort writing infrastructure-as-code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Demonstrated success implementing data governance, privacy controls, and quality frameworks that satisfy SOC 2, GDPR, or similar regulatory standards.
• Nice-to-have: experience with real-time feature stores, ML pipelines (Airflow, Kubeflow), or building data products for marketplace or subscription businesses.
