📋 Description

• Senior Data Scientist at Medium, driving rigorous analysis and predictive modeling to inform product and business decisions as part of the Machine Learning & Insights team.
• Day to day: Proactively identify valuable research areas, partner with technical and non-technical stakeholders, work with executives including the CEO to model and present insights, build and maintain statistical and predictive models, run research projects for leadership, develop quantitative models for forecasting, mentor engineers, and contribute to Medium’s data culture.
• About the team or company: Medium’s mission is to deepen understanding of the world and spread ideas that matter by building the best place for reading and writing on the internet, where ideas are judged on value to readers, not advertiser attention. The Machine Learning & Insights team collaborates across the company to understand members, writers, and business through data.
• What the person can learn or achieve: Deepen expertise in applying data science to social platforms and subscription businesses, ship real product changes, define content quality metrics, design better experiments, grow leadership and cross-functional collaboration skills, and contribute to a data-fluent culture while working with a fully distributed team across the U.S. and France.

🎯 Requirements

• 4-6 years of experience as an in-house data scientist with a proven track record of driving business impact through data.
• Highly proficient in statistical programming with Python or R, and comfortable writing SQL for analytical queries (Python strongly preferred).
• Track record of building, validating, and deploying predictive and statistical models that drove measurable business outcomes.
• Strong collaborator with established history of cross-team and executive-level partnership.
• Experience applying modeling techniques to social platforms, subscription/membership businesses, or publishing is a plus.
• Experience with ML engineering practices, dbt, or data engineering is a plus.
