Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Nory AI is on a mission to revolutionize the hospitality industry by providing an all-knowing restaurant management system that leverages real-time data and AI predictive analytics to empower operators with unprecedented control over their margins. We are experiencing rapid growth, fueled by a recent Series B funding round, and are expanding our team to meet escalating demand. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a dynamic, fast-scaling startup and make a tangible impact on the future of restaurant operations.
- • As a Senior Data Scientist – Applied Machine Learning, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and scaling sophisticated machine learning systems that directly influence critical operational decisions within thousands of restaurant shifts weekly. This is a hands-on, production-focused role where your work will translate directly into measurable improvements in restaurant profitability and efficiency. You will be instrumental in moving beyond theoretical models to build robust, reliable ML services that deliver sustained value in a live, real-world environment.
- • Your core responsibility will be to own the end-to-end lifecycle of machine learning systems. This includes meticulously framing business problems, designing appropriate data strategies, developing production-grade ML services, deploying them into our cloud infrastructure, establishing comprehensive monitoring and drift detection mechanisms, and continuously iterating to ensure optimal performance and commercial value over time. You will be working closely with APIs, data pipelines, and cloud technologies to ensure our ML solutions are not only effective but also observable, maintainable, and robust.
- • A key aspect of this role is driving measurable business impact. You will focus on improving operational performance by increasing forecast accuracy, enhancing automation rates, and directly contributing to margin improvement, rather than solely focusing on abstract model metrics. This requires a deep understanding of the business context and the ability to translate ML capabilities into tangible financial benefits for our restaurant partners.
- • You will be expected to apply rigorous statistical thinking and sound experimental design principles to support clear decision-making processes. This involves selecting the appropriate level of complexity for ML solutions, ensuring that our approaches are both effective and efficient. You will also be responsible for designing and implementing robust monitoring and drift strategies from the outset, guaranteeing that our models remain accurate, stable, and commercially valuable throughout their operational life.
- • Collaboration is central to success at Nory. You will partner closely with Product Managers, Engineers, and Commercial teams to seamlessly embed ML capabilities into live operational workflows. The goal is to build systems that restaurant operators can trust and rely on daily to make informed decisions, thereby enhancing their efficiency and profitability. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly and influence cross-functional stakeholders will be crucial.
- • Beyond individual contributions, you will be a key player in raising the overall standard of applied machine learning at Nory. This involves influencing ML best practices, actively participating in code reviews, mentoring junior team members, and strengthening our collective systems thinking as the company continues its rapid scaling journey. You will help shape the future of ML within the organization, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- • This role is ideal for a proactive, pragmatic individual with a strong sense of ownership and a desire to operate with autonomy in a fast-paced, high-growth startup environment. You will be contributing to a product that is fundamentally changing how the restaurant industry operates, making it more efficient, profitable, and sustainable. If you are passionate about applying ML to solve real-world business challenges and thrive in a collaborative, impact-driven culture, this is the perfect opportunity for you.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven track record of owning and delivering production ML systems from conception to deployment and ongoing monitoring, demonstrating measurable business impact.
- • Strong foundational knowledge in statistics, with an MSc, PhD, or equivalent depth in applied statistics, experimentation, and quantitative reasoning.
- • Production-first mindset, comfortable working with APIs, CI/CD pipelines, cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure), and modern data tooling.
- • Deep expertise in classical machine learning techniques, including forecasting, regression, classification, feature engineering, and drift detection, with the judgment to select appropriate complexity.
- • Experience in measuring and articulating real business impact, focusing on metrics like automation rates, cost reduction, accuracy uplift, and margin improvement.
- • Proficient in writing clean, maintainable Python code suitable for shared codebases, not just exploratory notebooks.
- • Strong systems thinking capabilities, understanding the interplay between ML models, data pipelines, product workflows, and operational edge cases.
- • Excellent communication and influencing skills, capable of explaining technical trade-offs to diverse audiences including engineers, PMs, and senior leadership.
- • Startup ownership mentality: proactive, pragmatic, and comfortable operating with autonomy in a fast-scaling environment.
- • Right to work in the UK/EU without sponsorship.
- • Nice-to-have:
- • Experience in B2B SaaS or operational domains such as logistics, workforce planning, supply chain, or forecasting-heavy environments.
- • Experience working within lean, high-ownership data teams.
🏖️ Benefits
- • Remote-first working environment with the flexibility to work from anywhere in the world for up to 3 months of the year.
- • Competitive salary range commensurate with experience and expertise.
- • Meaningful equity options, ensuring every team member is an owner in Nory's success.
- • Generous 35 days of paid leave per year, inclusive of bank holidays.
- • Comprehensive private health insurance coverage through Axa (UK).
- • Enhanced parental leave policies and dedicated baby loss support.
- • Annual learning and development budget of €1000 per person, plus a quarterly book budget to foster continuous growth.
- • €250 home office workspace budget to ensure a comfortable and productive remote setup.
- • Regular team offsites and social events to foster connection and camaraderie.
- • Opportunity to work from offices located in London, Dublin, or Spain if preferred.
