šŸ“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Database Engineer at Xebia Poland, you will step into a pivotal role, taking complete ownership of the entire lifecycle of our critical database systems. This encompasses administration, sophisticated automation, and proactive troubleshooting within a large-scale, multi-tenant Kubernetes environment. Your expertise will be instrumental in driving our advanced GitOps and Helm-centric deployment strategy, with a sharp focus on achieving seamless, zero-downtime upgrades and maximizing the performance and stability of our core platform services. This position is an exceptional opportunity to refine your existing skills and gain invaluable, direct exposure to cutting-edge cloud database architecture and the intricate challenges of container orchestration at scale.
  • • You will be entrusted with the design, implementation, and ongoing maintenance of robust database infrastructure. This involves leveraging advanced Kubernetes constructs such as StatefulSets, Operators, and Helm charts to ensure that our databases are not only reliable and scalable but also inherently self-healing, minimizing manual intervention and maximizing uptime.
  • • A core aspect of your responsibility will be owning the complete deployment lifecycle for our database clusters. This includes meticulous management of version control for Helm charts and configuration templates, ensuring a traceable and reproducible deployment process. You will be the guardian of our database deployments, upholding best practices in infrastructure as code.
  • • You will provide critical support and administration for our production database systems. This involves proactively instrumenting these systems with comprehensive monitoring solutions to track performance, security posture, and availability within the dynamic containerized environment. Identifying and resolving potential issues before they impact users will be a key objective.
  • • Performing zero-downtime upgrades and complex migrations for both major and minor database releases will be a significant part of your role. This requires a deep understanding of database internals and Kubernetes capabilities, enabling you to orchestrate these critical operations with precision and minimal disruption.
  • • You will develop and maintain sophisticated Helm hooks and custom scripts. These tools will be essential for automating complex stateful operations, streamlining processes that are traditionally challenging in containerized environments and ensuring the smooth operation of our database services.
  • • Managing and optimizing the performance of our backend data stores is paramount. You will ensure data consistency and integrity are maintained rigorously across all pod lifecycles, safeguarding the reliability of our data assets.
  • • A key focus will be on developing and maintaining automation tools and scripts, primarily using Bash and Python. These tools will be specifically designed to simplify and enhance Kubernetes management tasks. This includes automating the provisioning of users, managing secrets securely, and continuously monitoring the overall state and health of our Kubernetes clusters.
  • • You will collaborate closely with development and operations teams to understand their database needs and provide expert guidance on database design, performance tuning, and best practices within the Kubernetes ecosystem.
  • • Contributing to the continuous improvement of our database platform by researching and evaluating new technologies, tools, and methodologies will be encouraged. You will play an active role in shaping the future of our data infrastructure.
  • • Ensuring robust backup and disaster recovery strategies are in place and regularly tested will be a critical responsibility, guaranteeing business continuity in all scenarios.
  • • You will be a key player in maintaining security best practices for database access, data encryption, and vulnerability management within the Kubernetes environment.
  • • This role offers a unique chance to work with a diverse range of modern, open-source database technologies and cloud platforms, including but not limited to those supported by Xebia's partnerships with Databricks, dbt, Snowflake, Azure, GCP, and AWS.
  • • You will be part of a vibrant community that values continuous learning and knowledge sharing, participating in events, meetups, and internal Guilds to foster professional growth.

šŸŽÆ Requirements

  • • Proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing large-scale database systems, with a strong emphasis on performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
  • • Extensive hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including StatefulSets, Operators, Helm, and GitOps principles for managing stateful applications.
  • • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python for automation tasks, particularly in a cloud-native environment.
  • • Deep understanding of database administration tasks, including monitoring, backup/restore, security, and zero-downtime upgrades for at least one major relational or NoSQL database (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB, Cassandra).
  • • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and their managed database services.

šŸ–ļø Benefits

  • • Opportunity to work on challenging and impactful projects for leading global clients.
  • • Access to a personal development budget for training, conferences, and certifications.
  • • Participation in a vibrant tech community with regular meetups, summits, and internal knowledge-sharing sessions (Guilds, Labs).
  • • Flexible working hours and a remote work option within the EU.
