Full Job Description

đź“‹ Description

  • • Build and ship production-ready UI components from design specs, prioritizing performance, reusability, and scalability across the maritime intelligence web portal using React and TypeScript.
  • • Develop and maintain a living design system by synchronizing design tokens, component libraries, and documentation between Figma and code to ensure consistency across all maritime intelligence applications.
  • • Prototype novel interactions and data visualizations—including live sensor feeds, event timelines, and tracking dashboards—to validate new product concepts in real-time, interactive environments.
  • • Implement high-fidelity features such as map interfaces and radar overlays that preserve design intent while handling high-density, layered data in operationally critical environments.
  • • Create tooling and automation to streamline the design-to-development workflow between product designers and core engineering teams.
  • • Iterate on UI implementations based on direct feedback from operators, field testing, and performance metrics gathered from defense and government customers.
  • • Conduct and synthesize user research to inform technical design decisions, translating complex maritime workflows into clear, intuitive, and high-performance user journeys.
  • • Establish and enforce accessibility standards (WCAG), performance optimization guidelines, and responsive design practices across the entire front-end codebase.
  • • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Head of Product and CTO to align technical execution with operational needs in maritime surveillance and domain awareness.
  • • Ensure all interfaces are optimized for low-latency, high-reliability use in mission-critical scenarios where information clarity and software responsiveness are non-negotiable.
  • • Translate high-fidelity Figma designs into production code with precision, maintaining visual fidelity while adhering to engineering constraints in data-rich, real-time environments.
  • • Maintain deep alignment between design systems and front-end implementation, ensuring that component libraries evolve in tandem with product requirements and user feedback.
  • • Design and implement geospatial interfaces capable of rendering overlapping sensor data, AIS tracks, radar overlays, and video feeds with smooth performance on web platforms.
  • • Apply advanced UX principles including interaction design, information architecture, and cognitive load management to simplify complex maritime operational workflows.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of accessibility and performance benchmarks specific to defense and commercial maritime user bases.
  • • Participate in iterative design sprints that incorporate field data, operator input, and technical constraints to refine interface functionality and usability.
  • • Advocate for user-centered design practices grounded in real-world operational contexts, not theoretical aesthetics.
  • • Work in a distributed, asynchronous team environment with flexible hours and a startup culture that emphasizes autonomy and ownership.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 5+ years of experience in product design, UI/UX engineering, or front-end design engineering with a portfolio demonstrating mastery of data-rich web application interfaces
  • • Deep fluency in HTML, CSS/Tailwind, and modern JavaScript/TypeScript with hands-on experience building components in React
  • • Deep proficiency in Figma, including advanced component libraries, auto-layout, token management, and maintaining design-to-code consistency
  • • Strong visual design foundation in typography, color, layout, and hierarchy, especially for dense, operationally critical environments
  • • Experience designing and building geospatial or map-based interfaces with layered data visualizations and Canvas/WebGL rendering
  • • Comfort working in iterative processes incorporating user research, field feedback, and performance data to refine designs

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Distributed team environment working asynchronously
  • • Startup atmosphere with autonomy given to engineers
  • • In-office and flexible hours
  • • Mission-driven work supporting defense agencies, coast guards, and commercial maritime operators
