Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Lead the operational accounting function for a high-growth AI company preparing for its first audit and IPO, overseeing monthly and quarterly closes, general ledger integrity, and sub-ledger management (AP, AR, payroll).
- • Design and implement the accounting function architecture from scratch, ensuring it is audit-ready, scalable, and aligned with ASC 718, 606, 842, 340, and 805 requirements through system instrumentation, not policy writing.
- • Lead the end-to-end migration from Xero to a new enterprise ERP platform (e.g., NetSuite, Rillet, Everest), including vendor evaluation, implementation, data migration, and user adoption.
- • Build the SOX control environment from zero, designing an effective, lightweight operational control perimeter that supports IPO readiness without unnecessary bureaucracy.
- • Directly manage and develop a lean accounting team, including hiring managers and junior staff, setting performance standards, and fostering leadership growth beneath you.
- • Partner closely with the Chief Accounting Officer to operationalize technical accounting requirements, ensuring the GL and sub-ledgers deliver accurate, auditable data for financial reporting and audit fieldwork.
- • Deliver the company’s first-ever audit successfully by standing up PBC (Provided By Client) delivery, codifying accounting policies within systems, and defending the opening balance sheet.
- • Embed AI-native practices into daily accounting workflows, leveraging AI tools to automate, enhance accuracy, and reduce manual effort across close processes, reconciliations, and reporting.
- • Scale the accounting function as the company grows, expanding scope to include cross-functional finance partnership, board-level support, and succession planning for future leadership.
- • Ensure accounting systems are designed to become easier to operate as the company scales, avoiding manual workarounds and building automation into the core architecture.
- • Maintain operational fluency in complex accounting standards without being responsible for policy authorship—focus on system design that enforces compliance and auditability.
- • Work in a fast-paced, AI-first environment where rapid adaptation, continuous learning, and experimentation with emerging technologies are core to success.
- • Operate in a lean team structure with high expectations for ownership, initiative, and execution—no hand-holding, no legacy processes to maintain.
- • Prepare the organization for global expansion by building accounting systems that can support multi-entity operations as Deepgram’s footprint grows.
- • Collaborate with treasury and audit firms under the direction of the CAO, ensuring seamless handoffs and system alignment for external audit requirements.
- • Drive continuous improvement in accounting operations by measuring efficiency, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing AI-driven solutions to enhance speed and accuracy.
- • Serve as the primary operational owner of accounting systems, ensuring data integrity, audit trails, and compliance across all financial reporting cycles.
- • Contribute to the company’s AI-first culture by actively using, testing, and building AI tools into your own and your team’s daily workflows.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12+ years of accounting experience, with at least 6 years in a senior operating role at a high-growth company
- • Direct experience leading a company through its first-ever audit (not just a new audit firm)
- • Proven track record of leading an end-to-end ERP migration at meaningful scale
- • Demonstrated experience designing an operational accounting function from scratch, not just running one
- • Operational fluency in ASC 718, 606, and 842—knowing how to structure GL and sub-ledgers to meet requirements
- • Experience building a SOX control environment from zero
🏖️ Benefits
