📋 Description

• The Senior Director of Engineering, Product and Design (EPD) Operations is a strategic leadership role reporting directly to the CTO, responsible for unifying Engineering Operations and Product Operations into a single, high-leverage function that drives delivery predictability, portfolio visibility, and execution excellence across 1Password’s rapidly scaling organization. This role is critical to enabling the company’s mission of building a safe, productive digital future by ensuring operational rigor supports innovation in cybersecurity and AI-driven product development.
• What the person will do day to day:
• Partner with CTO, CIO/CISO, and EPD leadership to develop and execute the department’s vision and roadmap, aligning operational plans with company strategy and proactively addressing scaling bottlenecks in a high-growth SaaS environment.
• Update and implement the end-to-end EPD operating model for scale, establishing scalable planning frameworks (annual, quarterly, sprint), execution rhythms, and decision-making governance to improve delivery predictability, velocity, and quality.
• Assess and improve department structure, processes, and systems to boost scalability and operational excellence, including maturing product lifecycle management and implementing engineering effectiveness frameworks such as DORA, flow metrics, and reliability KPIs.
• Define and manage KPIs aligned with organizational objectives, developing real-time visibility into roadmap progress, delivery health, risks, and outcomes through clear, low-bureaucracy dashboards and reporting systems for leadership insight.
• Lead cross-functional collaboration across Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, and GTM teams to optimize resources, drive collective outcomes, and represent the department in senior leadership forums.
• Build and sustain organizational change initiatives, transitioning from startup scrappiness to operational rigor by implementing scalable tooling (PLM, roadmap, capacity models) and formalizing dependency management and risk escalation.
• Lead a high-performing EPD Operations organization by coaching and mentoring direct reports, evaluating talent, implementing development plans, and fostering a high-performance culture rooted in psychological safety, ownership, and agility.
• Partner with Finance to oversee the departmental budget, ensuring efficient resource allocation, cost control, and identification of financial improvement opportunities.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with external customers, partners, vendors, and industry contacts to support strategic goals and advance 1Password’s market position in cybersecurity and Extended Access Management.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in Engineering Operations, Product Operations, Technical Program Management, or similar leadership roles, with at least 5 years in a leadership position, preferably within SaaS or cybersecurity.
• Proven track record of delivering success in enabling multi-team, complex, infrastructure-heavy delivery and building operational systems from scratch in a scaling company.
• Demonstrated success in leading and sustaining transformational initiatives in fast-paced, complex, and dynamic environments, including experience leading a company through IPO as an Operations Leader (preferred).
• Strong business acumen with expertise in AI, security infrastructure, developer platforms, or highly technical environments, coupled with exceptional analytical and strategic thinking skills to develop and execute plans that drive measurable results.
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to influence senior technical leaders and C-suite executives using expertise, executive presence, and strategic insights.
• Extensive experience in operational excellence, including process and system optimization, scalability, and the development and management of performance metrics such as DORA and flow metrics.
