- • Lead Airwallex’s global second line Financial Risk function, establishing standards, policies, limits, and escalation paths for credit, liquidity, capital, market, and model risk to enable safe business growth across products and markets.
- • Own second line credit risk oversight by defining global underwriting standards, setting credit limits, reviewing and challenging first line lending policies, and making decisions on complex or escalated credit exposures and exceptions.
- • Direct the firm’s liquidity, funding, and capital resilience agenda by overseeing intraday and structural liquidity risk, maintaining contingency funding readiness, designing stress testing scenarios, and supporting internal adequacy assessments and high-stakes regulatory submissions.
- • Set and enforce global FX and market risk guardrails, partnering with Finance and Treasury leaders to align exposure management and hedging strategy with corporate objectives.
- • Build and institutionalize model governance and independent validation across risk, pricing, forecasting, and automated decisioning models, ensuring comprehensive inventory management, validation standards, and regulator-ready governance frameworks.
- • Lead, grow, and mentor a high-performing Financial Risk team spanning Liquidity & Market Risk, Capital Risk & Stress Testing, Model Governance & Validation, and Lending, Acquiring & Counterparty oversight.
- • Act as a trusted advisor to senior management, executive committees, boards, and regulators on material financial risk issues impacting the company’s global operations.
- • Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering, Operations, Commercial, Financial Crime Compliance, Regulatory Compliance, and Legal teams to embed risk controls into product development and business expansion.
- • Shape the global risk appetite and framework to support Airwallex’s expansion across regulated jurisdictions and evolving financial products.
- • Ensure alignment with prudential and regulatory expectations, including Basel-related capital and liquidity frameworks and model risk standards, in all risk governance activities.
- • Drive the design and implementation of enterprise-wide stress testing programs and capital adequacy frameworks such as ICAAP and ILAAP.
- • Maintain rigorous oversight of counterparty risk, prefunding mechanisms, cross-border payment rails, and correspondent banking structures within the global payments ecosystem.
- • Promote a culture of first-principles thinking, speed with rigor, and end-to-end ownership across the Financial Risk function.
🎯 Requirements
- • 12 to 15+ years of experience in financial risk management within banks, fintechs, payments companies, digital banks, non-bank lenders, or similarly regulated financial institutions
- • 5 to 7+ years in a senior leadership role with global or multi-jurisdictional scope in financial risk
- • Deep expertise across credit risk, liquidity risk, capital adequacy, stress testing, FX or market risk, treasury risk, or model risk management
- • Strong second line experience designing frameworks, setting limits, challenging first line decisions, and escalating material matters to senior governance forums
- • Direct experience developing or overseeing capital and liquidity adequacy frameworks such as ICAAP, ILAAP, or equivalent prudential processes
- • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, mathematics, statistics, engineering, actuarial science, or another quantitative discipline
