• • As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing, developing, and maintaining the robust event-driven microservice architecture that powers Tide's Global One Platform. You will be part of a highly collaborative and autonomous engineering team, contributing to a product catalogue that spans critical business areas like Payments Services and Business Services. Our engineering teams are empowered to make key technical decisions that influence multiple teams and shape the future of our platform, offering a chance to truly own engineering practices.
• • You will be instrumental in defining and maintaining the services your team owns, embracing the 'you build it, you run it, you scale it' philosophy. This involves the full lifecycle management of microservices within Tide's extensive service catalogue, which currently comprises over 200 services managed by more than 40 teams. You will tackle complex and interesting technical challenges inherent in a fast-paced, scaling fintech environment.
• • The core of your development work will involve using modern technologies such as Java 17, Spring Boot, and JOOQ to build highly performant and scalable backend services. You will be responsible for designing and implementing RESTful APIs, treating them as products in themselves, especially given their potential public-facing nature in the Open Banking ecosystem. A strong emphasis is placed on API design excellence.
• • You will contribute to our event-driven architecture by utilizing messaging services like SNS, SQS, and Kafka for asynchronous communication between services, ensuring reliability and resilience. Your primary data storage will be PostgreSQL via Aurora, leveraging our extensive use of AWS services. This requires a deep understanding of database management and optimization in a cloud environment.
• • We foster a culture of rapid deployment and continuous delivery. You will deploy your services to production as frequently as needed, often multiple times a day. This is facilitated by our sophisticated CI/CD pipelines, powered by GitHub and GitHub Actions, complemented by robust JUnit and Pact testing. New joiners are encouraged to have their first deployment to production within their initial two weeks, highlighting our commitment to fast-paced learning and contribution.
• • You will gain hands-on experience with modern GitOps practices using ArgoCD. Our dedicated Cloud team manages the underlying platform using Docker, Terraform, and EKS/Kubernetes, providing a stable and scalable foundation for your services. Familiarity with these technologies is beneficial, and you will work closely with the Cloud team to ensure seamless integration and operation.
• • Monitoring and troubleshooting are critical aspects of this role. You will use DataDog extensively as your primary tool for monitoring service health, performance, and investigating issues. A proactive approach to identifying and resolving potential problems is essential to maintaining the high availability and reliability of our platform.
• • Collaboration is key to success at Tide. You will work closely with Product Owners to deeply understand user needs, identify business opportunities, and navigate regulatory requirements. Your role will involve translating these insights into well-engineered, secure, and maintainable software solutions that drive business value and enhance the member experience.
