- • **Join Monzo's Mission to Revolutionise Banking:** Monzo is on a bold mission to make money work for everyone, moving away from the complex and confusing traditional banking landscape. In just 10 years, we've evolved from a prepaid card to a comprehensive banking solution, offering personal, business, joint, and youth accounts, alongside credit cards, savings, investments, and pension services in the UK. Our iconic hot coral cards, early salary payments, engaging social media presence, and award-winning customer service are testaments to our commitment to creating exceptional customer experiences and solving real financial problems.
- • **Lead and Grow High-Performing Engineering Teams:** As a Senior Engineering Manager at Monzo, you will be a pivotal 'manager of managers,' taking ownership of multiple autonomous, mission-driven teams. You'll lead an organisation of approximately 20-30 individuals, including Tech Leads, Senior Engineers, and 2-3 Engineering Managers. A key aspect of your role will be to strategically grow and build new squads as Monzo continues its expansion, ensuring we have the right structure and talent to meet our ambitious goals.
- • **Foster a Culture of Excellence and Inclusion:** You will be accountable for the technical and delivery outcomes of your designated area. This involves nurturing and developing top-tier engineering talent, creating an inclusive environment where every team member can thrive and do their best work. You will be responsible for structuring, organising, supporting, and challenging your teams to successfully deliver on their respective missions, upholding a high bar for both technical quality and operational efficiency.
- • **Drive Delivery and Execution:** This role demands a proactive approach to delivery. You will embrace accountability for the successful execution of projects across your squads, working in close collaboration with Product Managers and Technical Leads. Your ability to drive initiatives forward, remove blockers, and ensure timely, high-quality delivery will be crucial to our success.
- • **Champion Engineering and Operational Excellence:** A core responsibility is to actively foster and maintain a high standard of engineering excellence within your teams. This includes overseeing individual engineer performance and growth, setting clear expectations, and ensuring technical solutions are robust, scalable, and maintainable. You will be instrumental in promoting best practices in software development and operational management.
- • **Empower and Develop People Leaders:** You will directly manage and mentor 2-3 Engineering Managers, providing them with the support, coaching, and continuous feedback they need to excel in their roles and grow their careers. This involves conducting regular 1:1s, facilitating their development, and empowering them to lead their own teams effectively.
- • **Exert Technical Influence and Strategic Vision:** While not a hands-on coding role, a strong technical background is essential. You will partner closely with senior engineers to champion and drive technical initiatives that elevate our engineering practices across the organisation. Your ability to understand complex technical challenges and guide teams towards effective solutions will be highly valued.
- • **Cultivate Strong Stakeholder Relationships:** Building and maintaining robust relationships with cross-functional teams and stakeholders is key. You will create an environment where engineers feel supported and empowered to focus on their work, fostering collaboration and alignment across different parts of the organisation.
- • **Contribute to Organisational-Wide Impact:** Beyond your immediate area, you will collaborate with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to the development and refinement of company-wide managerial and technical best practices and standards. Your insights and experience will help shape the future of engineering at Monzo.
- • **Embrace Flexible and Empowered Working:** Monzo champions flexibility and wellbeing. You'll have the autonomy to structure your work schedule to maximise impact and fit your life, whether that's managing childcare, personal appointments, or avoiding peak commutes. We trust you to deliver, wherever you are in the UK, with core hours designed to facilitate connection while respecting individual needs.
- • **Contribute to a Diverse and Inclusive Culture:** Monzo is committed to fostering an inclusive environment where everyone can do their best work. We actively encourage diversity and are dedicated to creating a workplace that reflects the diverse world we serve. Your leadership will play a role in upholding these values.
