- • Lead a team of 6–10 engineers building Docker's cross-platform runtime for AI workloads, a critical foundation enabling secure, scalable execution of AI agents across Windows, macOS, and Linux.
- • Own technical direction and roadmap for the Runtime team, ensuring alignment with product goals and delivering predictable, high-quality releases of core components including a custom VMM, container stack, and OS integrations.
- • Partner with product management to translate business objectives into engineering priorities, fostering collaboration across teams to drive operational excellence and reliability.
- • Hire, retain, and grow senior systems engineering talent by maintaining a high engineering bar, facilitating career development, and removing blockers to enable team success in a remote-first environment.
- • Stay close to customer needs and real-world usage, bridging the gap between elegant internals and trusted developer experiences to ensure Docker’s runtime remains the trusted platform for AI and traditional workloads.
- • Contribute hands-on technical insight when needed, leveraging deep systems expertise to guide architectural decisions and uphold engineering excellence across the team.
- • Drive long-term technical strategy for the runtime, shipping meaningful improvements that impact millions of developers relying on Docker daily.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years experience managing high-performing engineering teams.
- • 5+ years of hands-on systems programming experience in hypervisors, container runtimes, OS internals, kernel development, or similar low-level infrastructure.
- • Deep understanding of virtualization concepts including VMMs, hypervisors, and hardware-assisted virtualization.
- • Experience with container runtimes (OCI, containerd, runc) or equivalent low-level infrastructure.
- • Cross-platform systems experience across two or more of: Windows, macOS, Linux.
- • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- • Comfortable with high autonomy and remote work across time zones.
