📋 Description

• Horizon3.ai is seeking a highly accomplished Senior Engineering Manager to spearhead our Precision Defense engineering teams. This pivotal role is instrumental in transforming NodeZero’s offensive security insights into autonomous, high-signal defensive capabilities. You will be responsible for scaling and leading the engineering teams dedicated to critical areas such as tripwires, rapid response, and security control validation, ensuring our customers are equipped with the most advanced and effective defenses against evolving cyber threats.
• As a manager-of-managers, you will possess significant product ownership, guiding the strategic direction and execution of the Precision Defense product suite. This includes overseeing the development and evolution of:
• Tripwires: This encompasses the creation and enhancement of sophisticated deception technologies, including honeypots and honeytokens. These tools are designed to detect authentic attacker behavior within production environments, serving as a high-fidelity last line of defense against breaches.
• Rapid Response: You will lead the effort to codify emerging zero-day and n-day threats into actionable tests, targeted checks, and content. This proactive approach will alert customers to immediate exposures and provide clear guidance for swift mitigation, minimizing the window of vulnerability.
• Endpoint, Identity, and Data Security: Your teams will focus on validating and improving the efficacy of critical security controls, such as Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), identity security solutions, and data protection mechanisms. This validation will be grounded in attacker-validated evidence derived directly from the NodeZero platform, ensuring defenses are robust and effective against real-world attack vectors.
• Detection & Telemetry Integrations: A key responsibility will be ensuring seamless integration with essential security infrastructure, including SIEM, EDR, and ITSM systems. This integration will enable NodeZero’s outputs to intelligently tune detection rules, close security gaps, and continuously validate the operational effectiveness of customer defenses.
• Your overarching mission will be to build and lead an organization that masterfully closes the loop between offensive security operations and proactive defense strategies. By leveraging NodeZero’s deep insights into attack paths and exploitability, you will drive the development of precise detections, effective tripwires, and reliable control validation mechanisms. This will empower our customers to detect attackers earlier in their lifecycle, significantly harden their most critical assets, and gain definitive proof that their security defenses are performing effectively in production environments.
• You will foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and ownership within your teams, encouraging them to tackle complex technical challenges with creativity and precision. This includes driving architectural decisions, ensuring the scalability and reliability of our platform, and maintaining a high velocity of feature delivery without compromising quality. Your leadership will be crucial in attracting, mentoring, and retaining top engineering talent, building a world-class team capable of meeting the demands of a rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape.
• Success in this role requires a deep understanding of B2B SaaS platforms, particularly within the cybersecurity domain. You will be expected to navigate environments with potentially limited dedicated Product Management capacity, actively contributing to product strategy, roadmap definition, and the prioritization of technical initiatives. Your ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, balancing immediate delivery needs with long-term strategic investments in platform and product development, will be paramount.
• We are looking for a leader who is not only technically adept but also possesses exceptional communication and interpersonal skills. You must be able to articulate complex technical concepts and risk implications to a diverse audience, including engineers, product managers, sales teams, and executive leadership. Your collaborative approach will extend to working closely with cross-functional teams, including design, product, GTM, and customer-facing organizations, ensuring alignment and shared success.

🎯 Requirements

• Proven experience leading multiple backend/platform or detection/defense engineering teams, or an entire engineering organization, within a SaaS, cybersecurity, or cloud-scale environment.
• Demonstrated track record of successfully taking products from initial concept through to market launch and iterative improvement, in close partnership with Product Management and Go-To-Market teams.
• Strong technical depth with expertise in scalable backend architecture, data modeling, distributed systems, and B2B SaaS platforms, particularly within the cybersecurity domain.
• Familiarity with modern detection and response concepts (e.g., EDR, SIEM, threat detection rules) and a strong interest in offense-informed defense strategies.
