Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Own the architecture and delivery of AllSpice’s flagship full-stack web application, the first Git-native collaboration platform purpose-built for electrical and mechanical engineers. You will shape how thousands of hardware teams design, review, and release circuit boards, rockets, medical implants, and IoT devices.
- • Partner daily with Product Management to translate complex hardware-engineering workflows into elegant, scalable software. Expect white-board sessions that jump from 3-D PCB rendering to Git diff visualizations to permission models for multi-company design reviews.
- • Design and implement high-performance APIs and data models that let users browse, annotate, and version CAD files with hundreds of thousands of elements in milliseconds. You will profile, cache, and stream data so that opening a 50-layer board feels as snappy as opening a Google Doc.
- • Lead the end-to-end delivery of major features: scoping, sprint planning, code reviews, automated testing, and blue-green deployments on AWS via Docker Swarm and Terraform. You will champion continuous improvement, cutting build times and shipping faster with every release.
- • Build a next-generation 3-D rendering engine for PCB assemblies, combining WebGL, TypeScript, and Go micro-services to stream geometry to the browser while preserving Git-level traceability. Your work will be demoed at hardware meet-ups and cited in future TechCrunch articles.
- • Contribute upstream to the open-source Gitea project (our soft-fork foundation) and influence roadmap decisions that affect millions of developers. You will file PRs, shepherd patches, and represent AllSpice in the community.
- • Mentor junior engineers through pair programming, architecture reviews, and lunch-and-learns. You will raise the technical bar by introducing best practices in testing, observability, and secure coding.
- • Tackle gnarly cross-stack challenges: from optimizing Postgres queries that index millions of Git objects, to tuning Docker Swarm placement strategies, to writing Playwright e2e suites that validate 3-D canvas interactions.
- • Translate customer pain into elegant abstractions. When a Fortune-500 automotive client needs to diff two 10-GB board revisions, you will design a chunked, streaming diff algorithm that runs in under five seconds.
- • Champion a culture of experimentation: A/B test new UI workflows, instrument feature flags, and iterate rapidly with weekly user feedback sessions. Your code ships behind feature toggles and reaches production daily.
- • Collaborate across disciplines—hardware engineers, UX designers, DevOps, and DevRel—to ensure every pixel and every API call accelerates the global hardware design cycle.
- • Enjoy deep autonomy: choose your tools, propose bold refactors, and set technical direction. You will be trusted to balance short-term customer needs with long-term platform health.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years of professional software engineering experience shipping production web applications
- • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
- • Expert-level proficiency in at least one of Go, TypeScript, or Python, plus comfort navigating the others
- • Demonstrated ability to architect scalable REST/GraphQL APIs and relational data models (Postgres preferred)
- • Hands-on experience with Docker, CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Terraform)
- • Nice-to-have: familiarity with low-level Git internals, CAD file formats (KiCad, Altium), or 3-D graphics (WebGL, Three.js)
🏖️ Benefits
- • Competitive salary and meaningful equity in a well-funded Series A startup backed by top-tier VCs
- • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance plus generous PTO and company-wide recharge weeks
- • $1,500 home-office stipend and flexible remote-first culture with optional Boston office space
- • Supportive, ego-free colleagues and direct mentorship from founders who have scaled products to millions of users
