- • Design and ship production features on a Ruby on Rails API (Rails 7+) including authentication flows, background jobs via Sidekiq, and PostgreSQL schema design.
- • Maintain and improve API contracts using OpenAPI or JSON:API standards consumed by single-page applications.
- • Write and enforce test coverage using RSpec to ensure high reliability across services.
- • Build and maintain React applications using hooks and modern state management patterns with TypeScript.
- • Work with modern JavaScript toolchains including Bun, Vite, and esbuild to optimize frontend performance and tooling.
- • Contribute to and evolve a shared component library and design system used across multiple frontend applications.
- • Develop and maintain Python (3.11+) ETL pipelines, Snowflake transformations, and external API integrations.
- • Orchestrate data workflows in production using Dagster or Airflow to manage complex data pipelines.
- • Partner with Data Science and ML Engineering teams to productionize machine learning models into reliable, observable inference services.
- • Maintain container-based local development environments using Docker and Docker Compose.
- • Operate within an AWS environment including ECS Fargate, Lambda, EventBridge, and S3, supporting infrastructure managed via Terraform.
- • Own and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and drive pragmatic observability across services.
- • Establish and enforce engineering best practices across a 20+ repository workspace covering testing, CI/CD, observability, and code review standards.
- • Improve developer experience through local dev tooling, Makefile automation, and comprehensive onboarding documentation.
- • Lead code reviews and PR triage, driving improvements in type safety, security, and incremental refactoring.
- • Write clear technical specifications, RFCs, and architecture documentation including agent-readable context files for AI coding agents like Claude Code or Cursor.
- • Mentor engineers through pairing, documentation, and feedback rather than gatekeeping.
- • Operate autonomously in a fast-moving, multi-repo codebase alongside AI-assisted development tools.
- • Apply a bias toward simplicity by removing unnecessary code and abstractions as readily as adding new features.
- • Make judgment calls on when to standardize across services versus allowing appropriate service-specific opinions.
- • Work during U.S. business hours (9AM - 5PM EST) to support U.S.-based clients.
- • Collaborate in a remote-first environment with engineers and AI agents co-developing software in a shared workspace.
🎯 Requirements
- • 5+ years building production Ruby on Rails APIs (Rails 7+) with deep familiarity with ActiveRecord, Sidekiq, RSpec, JWT/auth flows, and PostgreSQL schema design.
- • 5+ years building production React applications using hooks and modern state management patterns with TypeScript and modern JS toolchains (Bun, Vite, esbuild).
- • Production experience with Python (3.11+), Dagster or Airflow, ETL pipelines, Snowflake transformations, and external API integrations.
- • Hands-on experience with Docker, Docker Compose, AWS (ECS Fargate, Lambda, EventBridge, S3), and infrastructure-as-code via Terraform.
- • Experience with CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and strong understanding of observability practices.
- • Proven track record of writing technical specs, RFCs, or architecture documentation in cross-team environments.
