Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • You will architect and deliver high-impact backend solutions for a cloud-native logistics platform that processes millions of transactions daily, directly influencing the speed and reliability of global supply chains.
- • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of Java Spring Boot microservices—from whiteboard sketches through production deployment—while continuously refactoring toward a fully serverless, event-driven architecture on AWS.
- • Design resilient, low-latency APIs that power both mobile driver apps and customer-facing web portals, ensuring sub-second response times even during peak shipping seasons.
- • Build and optimize Lambda functions, API Gateway routes, and DynamoDB tables using infrastructure-as-code (CloudFormation/CDK) so every change is versioned, tested, and repeatable.
- • Collaborate daily with a tight-knit onshore team of senior engineers in Auburn, WA, while coordinating with an offshore squad of nine contractors to align new feature development with ongoing support tasks.
- • Lead technical spikes and proof-of-concepts that explore cutting-edge AWS services—such as EventBridge, Step Functions, and AppConfig—to reduce operational overhead and accelerate release cycles.
- • Establish and evangelize best practices for observability, embedding CloudWatch, X-Ray, and custom metrics into every microservice so anomalies are caught before customers notice.
- • Participate actively in bi-weekly architecture guilds, presenting design proposals and gathering feedback that shapes the platform’s five-year technical roadmap.
- • Mentor junior developers through pair programming and code reviews, raising the bar for clean code, test coverage, and secure-by-default patterns.
- • Translate complex logistics business rules—rate calculations, carrier matching, real-time tracking—into elegant, maintainable code that can evolve without major rewrites.
- • Champion a DevOps culture by automating CI/CD pipelines in GitHub Actions, enabling zero-downtime deployments multiple times per day.
- • Evaluate and integrate third-party logistics APIs, ensuring data consistency and fault tolerance across heterogeneous systems.
- • Drive performance tuning initiatives, leveraging AWS profiling tools to shave milliseconds off critical paths and reduce Lambda cold-start times.
- • Contribute to disaster-recovery planning, designing multi-region failover strategies that guarantee 99.9% uptime for external customers.
- • Stay ahead of the AWS curve, experimenting with new releases like Lambda SnapStart or Graviton2 runtimes to cut costs and boost throughput.
- • Document architectural decisions in concise ADRs (Architecture Decision Records) so future engineers understand the “why” behind every choice.
- • Balance technical debt against feature velocity, negotiating scope with product owners to ensure sustainable delivery.
- • Foster a blameless post-mortem culture, turning incidents into learning opportunities that strengthen the entire engineering organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • 10+ years of professional software development with at least 7 years of deep, hands-on Java backend experience
- • Expert-level proficiency in Java, Spring Boot, and microservices architectures deployed on AWS
- • Proven track record designing and operating cloud-native, serverless solutions using Lambda, API Gateway, IAM, VPC, EC2, RDS, and S3
- • Demonstrated ability to ramp up quickly and deliver production-ready code with minimal onboarding in a fast-moving environment
- • Experience collaborating effectively in distributed teams that span onshore and offshore time zones
🏖️ Benefits
- • $110,000–$120,000 annual salary with full benefits package (medical, dental, vision, 401k match)
- • Fully remote flexibility within the U.S. with option to work onsite in Auburn, WA up to two days per week for those who prefer hybrid
- • Direct-hire, full-time employment with Davis Technology Management—no contract-to-hire uncertainty
- • Regular Pacific Time business hours that support work-life balance and predictable scheduling
