- • Design, build, and maintain high-performance backend systems that power KAYAK’s global travel search and booking platform, integrating with over 200 travel partners and 500,000+ hotels and 550 airlines.
- • Optimize search and booking logic to meet the demands of KAYAK’s largest corporate clients as part of the KAYAK for Business (K4B) initiative.
- • Develop and sustain robust integrations with third-party APIs from airlines, hotels, and car rental providers, ensuring reliability and scalability across high-volume traffic.
- • Take full ownership of engineering initiatives from concept through deployment, maintaining rigorous standards for code quality, performance, and system reliability.
- • Participate actively in code reviews and architectural decision-making to ensure the K4B project remains modular, reusable, and scalable as KAYAK expands its enterprise offerings.
- • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features that enhance the corporate travel experience, including identity and HR system integrations.
- • Work from the Berlin office at least three days per week, contributing to team cohesion and in-person collaboration while leveraging remote flexibility for up to 20 days per year.
- • Contribute to the evolution of KAYAK’s technology stack by implementing modern Java solutions using the Spring ecosystem, including Spring Boot, and ensuring seamless interaction with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (Redis) databases.
- • Apply expertise in B2B systems to integrate identity and HR platforms such as Workday, Okta, and Active Directory using standards like SCIM, SAML, OAuth, and SSO for user provisioning and deprovisioning.
- • Leverage domain knowledge of airline distribution systems (GDS: Amadeus, Sabre, Travelport) and NDC standards to improve booking accuracy and system interoperability.
- • Drive engineering excellence by proposing and implementing improvements to system architecture, monitoring, and operational efficiency.
- • Support a culture of continuous learning and innovation by engaging in leadership development, on-demand e-learning resources, and peer knowledge sharing.
- • Participate in monthly social events, Thursday happy hours, and company sports teams to foster team connection and well-being.
- • Contribute to an inclusive workplace culture that values diverse perspectives and supports employees in bringing their full selves to work.
🎯 Requirements
- • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or related field
- • 5+ years of experience in Java
- • Hands-on experience with the Spring ecosystem (Spring/Spring Boot) and working knowledge of relational (SQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis)
- • Strong English communication skills
- • Ability to design and implement engineering initiatives with minimal guidance
- • Prior experience in the travel domain — familiarity with airline distribution and standards (GDS such as Amadeus/Sabre/Travelport, NDC) and their integration with booking/reservation systems
