  • • Own and evolve Handshake’s corporate communications strategy across company, Careers, EDU, AI, and future-of-work themes to shape external narratives in high-stakes technology conversations.
  • • Build and manage press relationships within the workforce, AI, education, and technology industries to secure meaningful earned media coverage across business, tech, and workplace outlets.
  • • Proactively pitch stories, data insights, announcements, and thought leadership content that align with business priorities and elevate Handshake’s brand visibility.
  • • Partner directly with the CEO and leadership team to develop executive narratives, media opportunities, speeches, op-eds, talking points, and public messaging.
  • • Prepare executives for high-visibility speaking engagements, media interviews, panels, podcasts, and industry events through narrative development, briefing materials, Q&A prep, and message coaching.
  • • Lead reactive and crisis communications by collaborating with legal, policy, people, product, and leadership teams during sensitive or high-stakes moments.
  • • Oversee external communications agency partners to ensure their work is strategically aligned, high-quality, and focused on company priorities.
  • • Partner with the social team to provide strategic guidance, content review, approvals, and counsel on Handshake’s corporate LinkedIn presence, ensuring brand alignment, voice, and tone consistency.
  • • Build scalable, repeatable communications processes for press intake, internal approvals, messaging frameworks, executive preparation, campaign launches, and performance reporting.
  • • Translate complex topics in AI, labor markets, education, and enterprise technology into clear, compelling, and credible narratives for diverse public audiences.
  • • Operate both strategically and hands-on—from setting long-term communications strategy to drafting press releases, pitches, internal briefs, and social content.
  • • Maintain alignment with cross-functional teams including marketing, product, legal, policy, people, and sales to ensure consistent, coordinated messaging across all channels.
  • • Drive corporate positioning that supports Handshake’s growth as a $1B run-rate company powering 25 million job seekers, 1 million+ employers, and 1,600 educational institutions.
  • • Contribute to the evolution of Handshake AI’s public narrative by working directly with frontier AI lab researchers on evaluations, benchmarks, and data-driven insights.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 7+ years of experience in corporate communications, public relations, executive communications, or media relations, preferably in high-growth tech or a top communications agency
  • • Proven experience partnering with founders, CEOs, or senior leaders on external narrative, media strategy, and thought leadership
  • • Demonstrated ability to build press relationships and secure meaningful earned media coverage in business, technology, workplace, education, or AI outlets
  • • Excellent writing and messaging skills with the ability to translate complex topics into clear, compelling narratives
  • • Strong judgment under pressure, particularly in reactive, sensitive, or ambiguous communications situations
  • • Experience managing external communications agencies or consultants
