- • As a Senior Manager, Compliance (Strategic Execution Lead) at Coinbase, you will be at the forefront of navigating the complex and rapidly evolving landscape of financial regulations within the cryptocurrency and blockchain industry. This pivotal role demands a strategic thinker with deep compliance expertise, capable of managing high-stakes projects that drive the company's growth and innovation. You will serve as a critical subject matter expert, providing essential compliance guidance for strategic initiatives such as new product launches, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and international market expansions. Your primary objective will be to identify potential risks associated with these ventures and to architect robust risk mitigation strategies that ensure sustainable and compliant business development.
- • In the realm of M&A, you will play a crucial role in pre-deal due diligence. This involves meticulously assessing the compliance frameworks, internal controls, and personnel of potential acquisition targets. You will be responsible for identifying any compliance gaps or deficiencies and subsequently developing comprehensive remediation plans to address these issues, ensuring that any acquired entity aligns with Coinbase's stringent compliance standards.
- • Following an acquisition, your expertise will be vital in the integration phase. You will lead the implementation of compliance remediation plans, which may include updating existing policies and procedures, developing targeted training programs for new employees, and establishing or refining internal controls to meet regulatory requirements and Coinbase's operational standards.
- • For new market entries, you will conduct thorough assessments of the regulatory requirements in target jurisdictions. This includes drafting bespoke compliance policies and governance programs tailored to the specific legal and regulatory environment of each new market. A key aspect of this responsibility involves engaging proactively with local regulators and banking partners to secure necessary licenses and establish banking relationships, thereby paving the way for successful international expansion.
- • When it comes to launching new products, you will perform detailed compliance risk assessments to understand the potential regulatory implications. You will propose and implement incremental controls to mitigate identified risks, ensuring that new offerings are compliant from inception. This will involve close collaboration with Money Laundering Reporting Officers (MLROs) to pinpoint specific local regulatory obligations and engaging with regulators or banking partners to clearly articulate how Coinbase has effectively mitigated any incremental risks associated with the new product, fostering trust and regulatory approval.
- • This role requires a proactive and results-oriented approach, managing multiple time-sensitive projects with a keen sense of urgency and unwavering focus. You will be expected to foster and maintain strong, collaborative working relationships with key internal stakeholders, including teams within Corporate Development, Partnerships, Legal, and other compliance functions. Your ability to communicate complex compliance concepts clearly and effectively to diverse audiences will be paramount.
- • You will contribute to building a culture of compliance excellence, ensuring that Coinbase not only meets but exceeds regulatory expectations across all its operations. This involves staying abreast of the latest regulatory developments, industry best practices, and emerging risks within the digital asset space. Your strategic insights will help shape Coinbase's compliance roadmap, enabling the company to innovate responsibly and maintain its position as a trusted leader in the global financial system.
- • The ideal candidate will possess a broad spectrum of compliance expertise, with a strong emphasis on Anti-Money Laundering (AML) and sanctions advisory, enhanced due diligence processes, and navigating international regulatory compliance frameworks. You should have a proven track record of assessing risks, identifying compliance gaps, and designing effective control enhancements that facilitate business growth without compromising integrity.
- • Beyond the core responsibilities, you will be instrumental in advising on the compliance implications of new technologies and business models within the crypto ecosystem. This includes understanding the nuances of decentralized finance (DeFi), non-fungible tokens (NFTs), and other emerging areas, and translating these into actionable compliance strategies.
- • Your work will directly impact Coinbase's ability to expand its global reach, launch innovative products, and maintain the trust of its users and regulators. This is an opportunity to make a significant contribution to the future of finance, working in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a team dedicated to increasing economic freedom worldwide.
