- • Join Unreal Brands Inc., a mission-driven company dedicated to "unjunking the world" through delicious, better-for-you chocolate products. We are seeking a highly organized, collaborative, and self-sufficient Senior Manager, Inventory Accounting to lead all inventory-related accounting functions. This pivotal role ensures the accuracy of inventory valuation, maintains robust internal controls, and guarantees compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). You will be instrumental in strengthening our financial processes, supporting the month-end close, and providing critical inventory and Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) data by fostering strong partnerships with our operations, supply chain, and Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) teams.
- • As the Senior Manager, Inventory Accounting, you will be a key member of the Unreal Accounting team, reporting directly to the Senior Director, Accounting. Your responsibilities will encompass the end-to-end management of inventory accounting processes. This includes meticulously overseeing cost accounting methodologies, ensuring accurate inventory valuation across all stages, establishing and managing necessary reserves, and accounting for obsolescence.
- • You will be responsible for the precise and timely recording of all inventory transactions within the general ledger. This requires close collaboration with the operations and supply chain departments to gain a deep understanding of inventory movements, production processes, and warehousing activities. Your role will involve overseeing the execution and reconciliation of physical inventory counts and cycle counts, diligently investigating and resolving any discrepancies that arise to maintain data integrity.
- • A significant part of your role will involve the in-depth analysis of inventory variances and trends. You will identify the root causes of fluctuations, develop insights, and clearly communicate your findings and recommendations to management. This analytical rigor is crucial for informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- • You will play a lead role in maintaining and enhancing the internal control environment surrounding inventory. This includes documenting processes, testing controls, and implementing improvements to mitigate risks and ensure compliance. Your expertise will be vital in supporting the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, specifically focusing on inventory and COGS accounts.
- • Prepare essential inventory-related journal entries, perform detailed reconciliations of inventory accounts, and contribute to the preparation of financial statement disclosures related to inventory. You will proactively partner with operations and supply chain teams to gain a comprehensive understanding of inventory drivers, including raw materials, work-in-progress, and finished goods, and how they impact financial results.
- • Assist in the development of inventory-related aspects of the annual budget and ongoing forecasting processes, providing critical data and insights to support inventory planning and optimization efforts. You will lead the annual financial and bank audits for Inventory and COGS, serving as the primary point of contact, providing necessary documentation, and offering clear explanations for audit inquiries. This may extend to supporting other audit areas as needed.
- • You will have the opportunity to lead or mentor inventory accounting staff, fostering their development and ensuring the team's overall effectiveness. A key objective will be to drive continuous process improvements and identify opportunities for system enhancements within the inventory accounting function, leveraging technology to increase efficiency and accuracy.
- • Collaborate effectively across departments, assigning ownership for close-related tasks, and maintaining real-time communication regarding progress and potential roadblocks during the close process. This cross-functional collaboration is essential for a smooth and efficient financial close.
- • This role is ideal for a proactive individual who thrives in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, comfortable working autonomously while also being a strong team player. Your contributions will directly impact the financial accuracy and operational efficiency of a rapidly growing and innovative CPG company.
