- • Senior Manager, Strategic Tax Operations role focused on building scalable, AI-driven tax infrastructure to support complex business operations, strategic transactions, and forecasting at OpenAI.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include supporting M&A tax integration, analyzing tax implications of acquisitions and restructurings, building scalable workflows for technical tax areas, developing multi-year tax forecasting models, and partnering with cross-functional teams to translate tax insights into operational execution.
- • The Tax team is evolving from traditional compliance into a data-driven, AI-first operating model, aiming to reduce manual work, improve auditability, and create faster, higher-quality tax insights through structured systems and intelligent tooling.
- • In this role, you will design future operating models for complex tax operations, leverage OpenAI’s AI tools to enhance research and workflows, and build repeatable frameworks around tax attributes, partnership accounting, consolidation rules, and legal entity management—moving beyond manual processes to scalable, auditable systems.
🎯 Requirements
- • 8+ years of experience in U.S. federal income tax, M&A tax, partnership tax, or complex tax operations
- • Strong technical understanding of federal consolidated return rules, tax attributes and limitation mechanics, M&A and restructuring tax considerations, partnership taxation and capital account mechanics, and structural tax modeling
- • Experience supporting M&A transactions, restructuring projects, or post-close integration workstreams
- • Demonstrated ability to improve processes, not just execute technical analysis
- • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to reason through ambiguous technical tax issues
- • Comfort operating in fast-moving environments where structure may not yet fully exist
- • Ability to connect technical tax analysis with operational, compliance, forecasting, and reporting implications
- • Strong communication skills to explain technical tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
- • Curiosity around AI and automation as core components of modern tax operations
- • Builder mentality with interest in creating scalable systems and infrastructure rather than maintaining fragile manual processes

- • Hybrid work model (3 days in office per week)
- • Relocation assistance for new employees
- • Opportunity to work with and leverage OpenAI’s AI technologies to accelerate tax research, documentation, and workflow design
- • Access to cutting-edge AI tools to improve efficiency and innovation in tax operations
- • Being part of a mission-driven organization focused on ensuring AI benefits all of humanity
- • Equal opportunity employer with commitment to diversity, inclusion, and reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities
