• • Take Profit Trader LLC, a rapidly expanding proprietary trading firm renowned for handling hundreds of millions of dollars in trading volume, is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior PostgreSQL Database Administrator (DBA) to join their dynamic team. This is a pivotal, hands-on leadership role where you will be entrusted with the complete end-to-end lifecycle management of our critical PostgreSQL clusters. You will be instrumental in ensuring the stability, performance, and scalability of our data infrastructure, which is the backbone of our high-frequency trading operations.
• • As a Senior DBA, your primary focus will be on operating our PostgreSQL environments at an immense scale. This involves the meticulous optimization of complex queries that process vast amounts of transactional data, the strategic management of multi-terabyte partitioned tables to maintain query efficiency, and the unwavering assurance that our demanding reporting and business intelligence workloads thrive without ever compromising the stability and availability of our production OLTP systems. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to execute trades efficiently and provide actionable insights to our traders.
• • You will be the foremost technical authority on data architecture within the organization, acting as a crucial bridge between our core infrastructure teams and our data analytics departments. This collaborative role ensures that our data solutions are not only robust and performant but also perfectly aligned with our aggressive growth objectives and evolving business needs. Your insights will guide strategic decisions regarding data storage, access, and utilization.
• • A significant aspect of this role involves Cluster Orchestration. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing management of highly available (HA) PostgreSQL clusters. This includes single-node setups, advanced configurations using Patroni for automated failover and management, and leveraging managed cloud database services across all our environments, from development and staging to production. Ensuring minimal downtime and maximum uptime is paramount.
• • Performance Tuning is another core responsibility. You will proactively monitor all PostgreSQL instances, identify potential bottlenecks, and implement solutions to resolve them. This includes expert-level tuning of vacuum and autovacuum processes, addressing index bloat, optimizing connection pooling with tools like pgBouncer, and fine-tuning query execution plans to ensure lightning-fast data retrieval and processing.
• • You will architect and implement advanced Data Lifecycle Management strategies, with a strong emphasis on Partitioning. This involves designing and deploying sophisticated partitioning schemes, such as Range, List, and Hash partitioning, tailored to our specific data patterns. Furthermore, you will develop and automate archival policies to efficiently move historical data to cost-effective storage tiers, thereby maintaining optimal performance for active datasets while ensuring accessibility for analytics and compliance.
• • Ensuring the Resiliency and Security of our data is non-negotiable. You will own and refine our backup and disaster recovery (DR) strategy, implementing and testing Point-in-Time Recovery (PITR) and utilizing robust tools like pgBackRest. You will orchestrate zero-downtime upgrades and patching processes, and rigorously enforce Role-Based Access Control (RBAC) and data encryption standards across all database environments to protect sensitive financial information.
• • Supporting our Analytics initiatives is key. You will optimize read replicas and materialized views to facilitate high-performance Business Intelligence (BI) reporting using tools like Tableau and Power BI. This optimization must be achieved without any negative impact on the performance of our critical OLTP systems, ensuring that both real-time trading and in-depth analysis can occur concurrently and efficiently.
• • Automation is essential for managing our large-scale infrastructure. You will leverage Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles and tools like Terraform to automate the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of our PostgreSQL clusters. Additionally, you will utilize scripting languages such as Python and Shell to automate routine tasks, deployments, and monitoring checks, thereby increasing efficiency and reducing manual errors.
• • You will design and orchestrate robust High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions, including automated failover mechanisms using Patroni or cloud-native HA solutions. The goal is to maintain a strict Recovery Time Objective (RTO) of under 15 minutes and a near-zero Recovery Point Objective (RPO), ensuring business continuity even in the face of significant disruptions.
• • Maintaining Financial Integrity and Compliance is a critical function. You will be responsible for enforcing stringent standards such as SOC2 and GDPR by implementing granular audit logging, robust encryption for data at rest and in transit, and automated Personally Identifiable Information (PII) masking across all relevant environments. This ensures our operations meet the highest regulatory requirements.
• • Finally, you will architect and execute comprehensive data archiving strategies. This involves defining policies for data retention that systematically move aged trade data to lower-cost storage solutions. The objective is to balance cost efficiency with the need for accessibility for business intelligence purposes and regulatory audits, ensuring that historical data remains available when needed without incurring excessive storage costs.
