- • Senior Product Engineer (Backend) role focused on building Sequence’s AI-powered revenue platform that processes over $1bn in annual invoice volume, enabling modern finance teams to replace spreadsheets and legacy systems with reliable, customer-loved software.
- • Day-to-day responsibilities include designing and shipping backend systems such as AI-powered approval workflows using natural language configuration, an intelligent collections agent for automated payment chasing, and scaling billing infrastructure to handle 10x throughput through rearchitected storage, horizontal scalability, and performance optimization.
- • Part of a lean, fast-growing engineering team (expanding to 20+ engineers) based in London and New York, with three days per week in-office collaboration, direct customer access, and real ownership over end-to-end product decisions in a high-impact, revenue-critical environment.
- • Opportunity to shape fundamental architecture, influence technical direction, and gain deep experience in distributed systems, resilient infrastructure, and AI-driven financial workflows while working alongside experienced founders and CFOs from top tech companies.

- • Proven experience shipping production backend systems with a focus on reliability, not just functionality
- • Strong customer-centric mindset — motivated to understand the 'why' behind features, not just the 'what'
- • Comfortable with ambiguity and early-stage ideation, including sharing work-in-progress and adapting based on feedback
- • Clear and thoughtful communication skills to enhance collaboration and technical decision-making
- • Interest in distributed systems and building resilient, scalable software
- • Nice to have: Deep relational database expertise, particularly for complex query performance optimization
