📋 Description

• Senior Python Engineer at PhotoRoom SAS responsible for owning and evolving the public API that enables developers worldwide to integrate cutting-edge AI photo editing capabilities into their applications, directly impacting how entrepreneurs and enterprises leverage visual AI technology.
• Design, build, and maintain the public API surface end-to-end, including API design decisions (naming, versioning, structure), implementation using Python and FastAPI, performance optimization, and long-term maintainability to ensure reliability and scalability for both self-serve developers and large enterprise customers.
• Ship features multiple times per week by iterating quickly based on real usage data and user feedback, working at the intersection of backend engineering and AI to abstract complex image models into simple, elegant developer-facing interfaces.
• Collaborate closely with product, machine learning, backend, and sales teams to ensure the API delivers tangible value, translates technical decisions into clear communication, and supports seamless integration for external users.
• Join a small, senior engineering team with high ownership and direct product impact from day one, contributing to a profitable, remote-friendly company serving over 300 million users and processing 5+ billion images annually through B2C and B2B solutions.
• Continuously improve developer experience by prioritizing impact, speed, and pragmatism while avoiding over-engineering, ensuring the API remains consistent, performant, and easy to adopt across diverse use cases.
• Participate in a high-performing, innovative culture that values craft, collaboration, and continuous learning, with opportunities to grow expertise in API design, AI systems, and scalable backend architectures.

🎯 Requirements

• Strong experience building backend systems in Python with a focus on APIs used by external consumers, not just internal services.
• Proficiency with FastAPI (or similar frameworks) and hands-on experience with async patterns, concurrency, and production debugging in high-traffic environments.
• Proven ownership or significant contribution to the design of public-facing APIs, including thoughtful consideration of versioning, consistency, and long-term evolution.
• Deep commitment to reliability, performance, and developer experience, with a product-minded approach that prioritizes impact and speed over over-engineering.
• Ability to take ownership, make decisions autonomously, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while communicating technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience working in high-performing, fast-paced or startup environments where ownership, agility, and direct product impact are valued.

• Competitive salary range of €75,000 – €110,000* + Stock Options/BSPCE, with flexibility to go higher for outstanding profiles and adjustments for cost of living.
