- • Senior Python Engineer responsible for designing, building, and evolving PhotoRoom’s public API — the core interface through which developers access the company’s AI-powered image processing capabilities.
- • Day-to-day tasks include owning the API surface end-to-end: from design decisions (naming, versioning, structure) to implementation, performance optimization, and long-term maintainability, while shipping features used by self-serve developers and enterprise customers multiple times per week.
- • Part of a remote-friendly, Y Combinator-backed team of 100+ builders serving 300+ million users globally, processing over 5 billion images annually for clients like Amazon, DoorDash, and Decathlon, with a focus on craft, innovation, and collaboration in e-commerce visual solutions.
- • Opportunity to work at the intersection of backend engineering and AI, abstracting complex image models into simple, elegant developer interfaces, while gaining ownership, direct product impact, and collaboration across product, ML, backend, and sales teams in a high-ownership, fast-paced environment.
🎯 Requirements
- • Strong experience building backend systems in Python with a focus on APIs used by external consumers
- • Comfortable with FastAPI (or similar frameworks) and experienced with async patterns, concurrency, and production debugging
- • Proven experience owning or significantly contributing to the design of public-facing APIs, including versioning, consistency, and long-term evolution
- • Deep care for reliability, performance, and developer experience in API design
- • Pragmatic, product-minded approach prioritizing impact and speed over over-engineering
- • Clear communication skills and ability to translate technical decisions for cross-functional audiences
