  • • You will play a critical role in supporting Airwallex's continued expansion by providing expert legal guidance on regulatory matters, working hand-in-hand with Product Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Financial Crime Compliance, and other vital teams.
  • • Your contributions will directly influence the successful delivery of innovative financial products at a global scale, ensuring adherence to all applicable laws and regulations.
  • • You will be deeply involved in monitoring, reporting on, and influencing regulatory trends and developments within the payments and financial services sectors across key LATAM jurisdictions.
  • • Proactively identify and anticipate regulatory changes that could impact business operations or strategic objectives, translating these insights into actionable advice for the business.
  • • Foster strong partnerships with Product Legal, Regulatory Compliance, Risk, and Financial Crime Compliance teams to guarantee robust adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • • Embed regulatory requirements seamlessly into product design and operational processes, ensuring compliance is a foundational element of our offerings.
  • • Provide essential support to local and global Product, Strategy, and Management teams, as well as regional Commercial teams, on new market entries and the expansion of regulatory licenses.
  • • Conduct thorough regulatory mapping and provide expert licensing advice across the LATAM region, facilitating strategic growth initiatives.
  • • Engage with senior Airwallex stakeholders globally, delivering timely and practical regulatory legal advice and comprehensive risk assessments for various business initiatives that have a LATAM impact.
  • • Effectively manage external legal counsel and consultants across diverse LATAM markets, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective support that aligns with Airwallex's business objectives and risk appetite.
  • • Offer legal counsel on Airwallex's ongoing regulatory compliance obligations, including the accurate and timely submission of regulatory reports and filings in relevant LATAM jurisdictions.
  • • Collaborate closely with the Regulatory Compliance team to ensure all reporting and filing requirements are met meticulously.
  • • Support government relations outreach efforts, engaging with legislators and regulatory agencies in key LATAM markets, such as central banks and financial supervisory authorities.
  • • Contribute to shaping policy and regulatory approaches that are relevant to Airwallex's business, fostering positive relationships with key regulatory bodies.

🎯 Requirements

  • • Qualified lawyer with approximately 10 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • • Significant regulatory experience within the fintech industry, top-tier law firms, and/or financial institutions, with a specific focus on payments, e-money, FX, remittances, and/or card issuing in Latin American markets.
  • • Deep expertise and a proven track record in advising on regulatory matters, managing regulatory submissions, filings, and developing regulatory strategies for financial services or payments businesses, ideally including direct engagement with regulators in Brazil, Mexico, and other LATAM markets.
  • • Comprehensive understanding of the financial services regulatory environment in Latin America, particularly concerning payments, remittances, FX, issuing, and digital financial services in Brazil, Mexico, and other key markets. Direct experience interacting with central banks and financial supervisory authorities in the region is highly advantageous.
  • • Fluency in English and at least one other business language prevalent in LATAM (e.g., Portuguese, Spanish), with a strong capacity to draft and negotiate legal documents in both languages.
