📋 Description

• As a Senior Research Data Scientist at Abridge AI, you will serve as the resident expert on data assets, structures, and pipelines that underpin the Strategic Research team’s work, operating at the intersection of data engineering, applied science, and rigorous empirical analysis to ensure research moves swiftly and confidently from raw data to credible insight.
• You will conduct quantitative evaluations of Abridge’s models and products using real-world deployment data, offline evaluations, and customer feedback, developing and validating metrics that reflect meaningful outcomes for providers and patients—including assessing construct validity, measurement error, and selection bias in observational signals like user ratings and feedback.
• You will design and execute analyses addressing core research questions: validating automated evaluation frameworks against human judgment, characterizing heterogeneity in adoption and usage trajectories, estimating causal effects of ambient AI on clinical and operational outcomes, and extracting structured characterizations of clinical practice from unstructured conversation data.
• You will build, extend, and maintain data pipelines that support internal and external research efforts, transforming raw data sources into clean, well-documented, research-ready datasets while collaborating with Data Engineering and platform teams to ensure data accessibility, reliability, and deep understanding of provenance and limitations.
• You will partner closely with product, engineering, science, and commercial teams to ensure evaluation and analysis are credible, decision-relevant, and grounded in real-world product use, translating complex analyses into clear, nuanced narratives tailored to diverse audiences to inform product decisions, guide strategy, and contribute to a rigorous evidence base for ambient AI’s impact in healthcare.
• You will work alongside a mission-driven team of practicing MDs, AI scientists, PhDs, creatives, technologists, and engineers in a high-growth startup environment where extreme ownership is expected and your contributions directly improve clinical documentation efficiencies and patient-clinician understanding.

🎯 Requirements

• 8+ years of experience using SQL and Python or R for data science, including building or working closely with data pipelines and data infrastructure
• 3+ years of data science experience in academic or industry research settings involving complex data processing and analysis for research studies
• Demonstrated ability to conduct empirical evaluations using observational or experimental data with a rigorous quantitative or mixed-methods approach, grounded in a problem-before-method mindset
