📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks for mobile and web applications using industry-standard tools and languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Collaborate with product, engineering, and QA teams to identify critical test scenarios and translate them into scalable, reusable automation scripts.
• Implement continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to integrate automated tests into deployment workflows, ensuring rapid feedback on code quality.
• Own the end-to-end quality strategy for Tala’s mobile applications, including regression, performance, and edge-case testing across Android and iOS platforms.
• Analyze test failures and root cause issues across distributed systems, providing detailed reports and actionable insights to engineering teams.
• Build and maintain test data pipelines and mock environments to simulate real-world user behavior and transactional scenarios consistent with Tala’s credit infrastructure.
• Advocate for quality engineering best practices across the organization, including test-driven development (TDD), behavior-driven development (BDD), and shift-left testing methodologies.
• Monitor test coverage metrics and drive improvements to ensure critical user journeys and risk-sensitive financial workflows are fully automated and validated.
• Work closely with data engineers to validate the integrity and accuracy of machine learning models powering Tala’s credit scoring and risk assessment systems.
• Participate in code reviews for both application and test code, ensuring maintainability, scalability, and alignment with architectural standards.
• Document test automation architecture, configuration, and execution protocols for onboarding new team members and ensuring knowledge continuity.
• Proactively identify gaps in test coverage and propose enhancements to automation strategy based on production incidents, customer feedback, and regulatory requirements.
• Support cross-functional initiatives across Africa, Latin America, and Asia by adapting test strategies to diverse device ecosystems, network conditions, and local compliance standards.
• Maintain a strong focus on security and data privacy in test environments, ensuring sensitive borrower data is handled in compliance with regional regulations.
• Contribute to the evolution of Tala’s quality engineering culture by mentoring junior SDETs and sharing knowledge through internal workshops and documentation.

🎯 Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in software development or test automation, with a strong focus on mobile applications
• Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Java, Python, or JavaScript for building test frameworks
• Hands-on experience with mobile automation tools such as Appium, Espresso, or XCUITest
• Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines using tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI, or CircleCI
• Strong understanding of API testing and tools such as Postman, RestAssured, or pytest
• Demonstrated ability to work in a remote-first, globally distributed team environment
