đź“‹ Description

  • • As a Senior Sensor Systems Engineer at Eight Sleep, you will play a pivotal role in advancing the company’s mission to transform sleep into a data-driven recovery experience by leading the design and development of next-generation biometric and physiological sensing systems that directly impact product performance for over 200,000 users worldwide.
  • • Your work will bridge cutting-edge hardware innovation with real-world user outcomes, ensuring that Eight Sleep’s products continue to set the benchmark in sleep fitness technology through reliable, autonomous, and high-fidelity sensing systems.
  • • You will lead the end-to-end development of next-generation biometric sensor systems, from initial concept through prototyping and into production readiness, focusing on creating robust, scalable solutions that operate flawlessly in nightly, long-term use conditions.
  • • You will rapidly develop functional prototypes integrating sensor design, electrical circuitry (PCBA), mechanical enclosures (via 3D rapid prototyping), and embedded firmware, enabling fast iteration and validation of sensing concepts in lab and real-world environments.
  • • You will perform signal acquisition, data analysis, and preliminary algorithm development to assess sensor feasibility, optimize performance, and translate raw physiological data into actionable insights for sleep staging, heart rate variability, respiration, and temperature monitoring.
  • • You will create and execute comprehensive sensor development plans that align with product roadmaps, ensuring designs meet reliability, power, size, and environmental constraints while maintaining compatibility with high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • • You will coordinate closely with product development, software, and firmware teams to seamlessly integrate sensor designs into the broader Eight Sleep ecosystem, ensuring cross-functional alignment on timing, performance targets, and user experience requirements.
  • • You will contribute to a culture of engineering excellence where innovation is expected, iteration is rapid, and attention to detail is non-negotiable — mirroring the intensity and precision of elite performance teams committed to pushing technological boundaries.
  • • You will work in Eight Sleep’s San Francisco office with in-person collaboration required to support hands-on hardware prototyping, lab testing, and real-time iteration with multidisciplinary teams.
  • • You will gain deep expertise in physiological sensing technologies, including ECG, PPG, bioimpedance, and environmental sensors, while applying system-level thinking to balance electrical, mechanical, firmware, and algorithmic trade-offs in complex embedded systems.
  • • You will have the opportunity to see your work directly impact hundreds of thousands of users, contributing to improved sleep quality, recovery, and overall well-being through tangible product advancements that are shipped, used, and valued globally.

🎯 Requirements

  • • 4+ years of industry experience developing sensing systems with a proven track record of innovation in biometric, physiological, or environmental sensing applications
  • • System-level mindset with demonstrated proficiency in electrical and mechanical prototyping, including PCBA design, 3D rapid prototyping, and hardware-in-the-loop testing
  • • Experience with embedded software development for signal processing, including firmware implementation on microcontrollers or DSPs for real-time sensor data acquisition and conditioning
  • • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience

🏖️ Benefits

  • • Receive your own Eight Sleep Pod — the company’s flagship sleep fitness technology — as a core benefit of employment, allowing you to personally experience and validate the impact of your work
  • • Work in a high-performance culture that rewards innovation, ownership, and impact with accelerated career growth and immediate responsibility from day one
  • • Collaborate with exceptional talent across hardware, software, firmware, and product teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment focused on breakthroughs in sleep technology
  • • Participate in equitable compensation with continuous equity investment, including periodic refreshments tied to performance, ensuring your success aligns with company growth
  • • Be part of a mission-driven organization recognized as one of Fast Company’s Most Innovative Companies and a TIME Best Invention honoree, dedicated to improving human potential through better sleep
