📋 Description

• • Architect, build and continuously evolve the core Android video player that powers JioStar’s flagship OTT application, serving 750 million weekly viewers across India and beyond. You will own the full lifecycle—from whiteboard design to Play-Store release—ensuring buttery-smooth playback on everything from entry-level ₹5 000 handsets to flagship foldables.
• • Deep-dive into ExoPlayer internals: fork, patch and upstream features such as low-latency HLS, LL-DASH, CMCD headers, dynamic ad-insertion hooks and adaptive bitrate algorithms that react to real-time network QoE telemetry. Your code ships to production weekly and is A/B tested against metrics like rebuffer ratio, start-up time and average watch-time.
• • Implement and harden DRM workflows (Widevine L1/L3, offline licenses, secure stop, key rotation) while staying compliant with studio security requirements and passing Google’s monthly attestation tests. You will also design resilient error-recovery paths for scenarios like network hand-offs, captive portals and sudden VPN drops.
• • Craft an offline-first experience: background downloads, adaptive storage quotas, smart resume and encrypted caching that survives app restarts and OS-level kills. Partner with the content-delivery team to pre-position popular titles on CDN edge nodes and device SD-cards, reducing peak-time bandwidth by double-digit percentages.
• • Instrument every frame path with detailed QoE analytics—startup, seek latency, stalls, bitrate switches—using in-house and third-party dashboards. Run weekly triage sessions with data-science, CDN and network-ops to turn insights into backlog items that improve the 95th-percentile experience.
• • Collaborate with iOS, Web and TV platform teams to define unified media APIs, shared playback state machines and cross-platform test vectors. Your Kotlin interfaces become the contract that backend, ads, recommendations and voice-assistant teams rely on.
• • Champion performance budgets and memory profiling: trace systrace logs, hunt native crashes in tombstones, reduce GPU overdraw and shrink APK size by leveraging Play Feature Delivery. Mentor junior engineers through code-reviews, pair-programming and weekly tech talks on topics like codec negotiation and thermal throttling.
• • Engage directly with product managers, designers and accessibility experts to launch features such as 360° VR playback, multi-angle live sports, audio descriptions and sign-language overlays. Your work will be showcased at Google I/O and celebrated by millions of cricket and Bollywood fans.
• • Maintain a QA-first mindset: write Espresso, UI-Automator and GMD (Gradle Managed Devices) tests that run on Firebase Test Lab across 30+ device profiles. Own the release checklist, staged-rollout strategy and hot-fix pipeline so that critical playback issues are resolved within hours, not days.
