- • Own the end-to-end payments experience for 10,000+ companies, designing and building systems that handle real money movement for travelers and financial controllers, including payment method setup, checkout, refunds, and fintech add-ons.
- • Architect scalable, auditable, and idempotent financial state machines that ensure correctness and reliability in a high-stakes financial environment where errors are not acceptable.
- • Collaborate with finance-focused product managers and designers to translate complex business goals into technical roadmaps, de-risking ambiguous projects through spikes and prototyping.
- • Lead the design and implementation of payment system improvements, proactively identifying areas to harden, simplify, or invest in the payments stack before they impact customers.
- • Write detailed design documents for significant changes to the payments architecture, ensuring long-term maintainability, performance, and failure isolation.
- • Coordinate cross-squad deliverables with Payments Governance and Payments Platform teams, aligning stakeholders on technical decisions and resolving blockers across organizational boundaries.
- • Lead incident response and blameless post-mortems for production issues, defining and managing SLOs, observability practices, and SRE standards for the payments domain.
- • Uphold and enforce engineering excellence through CI/CD optimizations, testing strategies, and coding standards across the full stack, ensuring high-quality, secure, and maintainable code.
- • Mentor junior engineers in payments engineering patterns, model best practices in financial system design, and provide thoughtful feedback during design reviews.
- • Influence the product roadmap with technical data, advocating for reliability, clarity, and user experience in CFO-facing financial systems.
- • Leverage AI-augmented workflows daily, using AI-connected tools in Notion, Jira, GitHub, and Slack to accelerate feature specification, code writing, and automated PR reviews.
- • Embrace agentic coding as an active collaborator, developing custom AI skills to extend capabilities and improve development velocity.
- • Participate in two-week Kanban cycles with standups, planning, refinements, and retrospectives, operating with real ownership of the payments experience domain.
- • Work in-person three days a week at the Barcelona office, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to enhance connectivity, creativity, and productivity.
- • Ensure operational security through secrets hygiene, dependency risk management, and hardened production environments to protect customer financial data.
- • Contribute to engineering guilds and cross-team initiatives to raise the bar for engineering quality and consistency across the organization.
🎯 Requirements
- • Proven experience architecting scalable, auditable financial systems with a focus on correctness and reliability
- • Demonstrated leadership in end-to-end product development for customer-facing financial experiences
- • Strong full-stack engineering fluency with deep expertise in either frontend or backend, and ability to make architectural decisions across the stack
- • Experience leading incident response, defining SLOs, and implementing observability and SRE practices
- • Track record of mentoring engineers and influencing technical direction through design reviews and roadmap input
- • Experience with or strong interest in AI-augmented development workflows, including agentic coding and AI-powered code reviews
