Full Job Description
đź“‹ Description
- • Join Hummingbird as a Senior Software Engineer and become a core architect of the platform that empowers compliance teams at Stripe, Affirm, Evolve Bank and dozens of other leading fintechs to detect, investigate and report financial crime at global scale.
- • You will own the design and delivery of high-impact product areas end-to-end—from whiteboard sketches to production code that processes millions of suspicious-activity alerts every month—while collaborating with a fully remote, cross-functional team spread across North America and Europe.
- • Expect to spend roughly 60 % of your time writing elegant, well-tested backend services in Go and TypeScript that orchestrate complex data pipelines, 25 % partnering with product managers and compliance experts to translate thorny regulatory requirements into intuitive user workflows, and 15 % mentoring mid-level engineers through thoughtful code reviews and pair programming.
- • Deeply influence our technical roadmap by proposing new patterns for event-driven architecture, championing zero-downtime deployments on Kubernetes, and driving adoption of modern observability practices that keep our p99 latency under 200 ms even when traffic spikes 10× during regulatory filing deadlines.
- • Work directly with customer-facing teams to triage and resolve escalations from investigators who rely on Hummingbird to file SARs within tight SLA windows; your ability to debug distributed traces and optimize PostgreSQL queries will materially reduce the time it takes to stop money launderers and human traffickers.
- • Contribute to our open-source initiatives—such as our custom BSA/AML rules engine—while sharing battle stories at meetups and conferences, reinforcing Hummingbird’s reputation as the technical thought leader in reg-tech.
- • Shape a security-first culture by leading threat-model sessions, integrating static-analysis tools into CI, and ensuring every pull request meets the stringent standards demanded by SOC 2 Type II and FedLine compliance.
- • Enjoy the autonomy of asynchronous work: we default to Loom videos and Notion docs over real-time meetings, so you can craft deep-focus time blocks that let you ship features without constant interruptions.
- • Participate in quarterly on-call rotations with a follow-the-sun schedule that respects personal boundaries; when alerts fire, you’ll have runbooks, automated rollbacks and a tight-knit team ready to swarm and restore service.
- • Grow into a Staff-level path by demonstrating technical leadership that scales the engineering organization—whether that’s spearheading a multi-region migration, defining service-level objectives that tie uptime to customer trust scores, or creating internal bootcamps that level-up our entire codebase.
