đź“‹ Description

  • • Join Metriport, a rapidly growing, open-source data intelligence platform revolutionizing healthcare data access and exchange. We are at the forefront of enabling real-time patient data integration across major US healthcare IT systems, providing access to comprehensive medical data for over 300 million individuals. Having achieved significant product-market fit with multi-million dollar ARR, over 100 enterprise customers including Strive Health, Circle Medical, and Brightside Health, and backed by top-tier Venture Capitalists, we are poised for substantial scaling. Our team is a high-performing, tight-knit group, largely comprised of former founders and YC alumni, fostering an engineering-centric culture with minimal bureaucracy and maximum autonomy. We prioritize competence and impact over prestige, empowering our engineers to take ownership and drive innovation.
  • • As a Senior Software Engineer at Metriport, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our platform. You will be instrumental in driving projects from their initial conception through to successful production rollout, directly impacting our ability to serve our growing customer base. Your responsibilities will span the entire software development lifecycle, demanding a blend of strategic thinking, hands-on coding, and collaborative problem-solving. You will be empowered to make significant technical decisions, influence architectural direction, and contribute to the overall success of the engineering team.
  • • Your day-to-day will involve:
  • • Spearheading end-to-end project ownership: This includes meticulously crafting project design documents, engaging in constructive design reviews with the team to refine solutions, and incorporating feedback to ensure the most robust and efficient outcomes. You'll be responsible for quickly developing initial versions (v0) of features, deploying them to our staging environment, and then validating them with pilot customers in production. The journey from v0 to v1 will involve iterating based on invaluable customer feedback, culminating in a full rollout to all our customers.
  • • Tackling complex and impactful engineering challenges: These projects will range from scaling critical services to support 100x growth, to optimizing infrastructure costs through strategic planning and implementation of cost-saving measures while enhancing scalability. You might also be involved in building sophisticated search capabilities using OpenSearch to enable rapid querying of patient medical histories, transforming legacy healthcare data protocols (like 90s-era TCP messages) into modern HTTP-based webhooks, or leveraging cutting-edge Large Language Models (LLMs) to extract structured medical data from unstructured doctor's notes.
  • • Ensuring high-quality code and efficient delivery: You will actively participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback to fellow engineers. This involves a nuanced understanding of when to prioritize thoroughness to maintain code quality and when to expedite delivery to meet business needs. You will manage your workload effectively using tools like Linear, ensuring transparency and efficient task tracking.
  • • Contributing to team processes and continuous improvement: You will actively participate in bi-weekly sprint planning and retrospective sessions, as well as quarterly planning meetings. While we maintain a lean meeting schedule, a daily 30-minute remote stand-up (7:30 AM PST, Mon-Fri) is mandatory for team synchronization. You will also be part of a daily on-call rotation, ensuring prompt response to alerts and customer issues, and dedicating time to address critical backlog items that enhance developer experience and accelerate our shipping cadence.
  • • Embracing a culture of rapid iteration and customer focus: We value speed and efficiency. When a project is scoped for three weeks, we encourage you to think about how it can be achieved in three days. This mindset, combined with a deep understanding of our domain and a commitment to delivering tangible value to our customers, is central to our engineering philosophy. You will be empowered to make decisions, take ownership, and see your work directly translate into improved healthcare data solutions.
  • • Collaborating within a high-autonomy, high-performance environment: As part of a team of mostly former founders and YC alumni, you'll thrive in an environment that values initiative, problem-solving, and a strong work ethic. We encourage entrepreneurial thinking and a proactive approach to identifying and solving challenges. Your ability to lead by example and guide others will be highly valued.
